Suddenly the Repubs. are backing Hastert?
Yesterday it was reported that the Repubs. were meeting to figure out who was going to tell Hastert to resign, and today they're saying they're behind him after he gives a press conference where he repeats his lies??? I wonder how the "values voters" will feel about this! This might be the best thing to happen to us!

2. Yeah, well put. At any rate, they're circling the wagons
Hastert's their firewall after all.

Didn't I compliment you for another good turn of phrase only yesterday, Bosshog? If that's a habit, keep it up :)

12. I gather the internal polls came back last night and they were not
good. Especially with the suburban moms which has been one of the Republican mainstays.

15. Part of the problem with dumping Hastert is the lack of a unifying
candidate to replace him.His lieutenants are all personally ambitious jackals. Denny was a Delay creation and it was inevitable that there would be a revolt against him eventually. But for it to happen now because of this could and should be devastating.Hastert remaining as Speaker assures that the story stays alive. It has to be clear to all but the most brain dead Republican that these crooks and hypocrites cannot handle power and need to be thrown out on their asses.

16. perhaps they've now convinced themselves that dumping him makes
them look guilty of the coverup so the best thing to do is lie and deny?

20. Lie and Deny. Puke S.O.P.
Frankly, I'm surprised it took them this long to figure it out; they were all running around like crazy (i.e., scared) people. They forgot the standard Repuke mantra: LIE AND DENY. LIE AND DENY. LIE AND DENY.

22. Panic...
Panic and strategizing. They probably have to poll the base and others to see if the "blame the Dems." worked. If not, they'll still have to dump Hastert but then others will have to go, too. It's funny how out of so many lies and cover-ups, this is the thing that might bring 'em down-a perv of their own party!

.."Get the hell out there now, back our guy and start blaming the damned Democrats!!!!!

Seriously.. I think it was Chip Reid that reported that earlier today.

24. Value Voters Are Hypocrits
The value voters don't really care if House GOP leadership covered this up, so long as they get to spout their platitudes. Chicago Public Radio went out to interview Hastert's constituents and pretty much all of them said, "He did what he was supposed to do." They don't care and they are fundamentally hypocrits.
