Shout it people... GOP Operative = Roger Ailes = Fox News...
Edited on Thu Oct-05-06 06:21 PM by WCGreen
The network is run by a former GOP hack who worked for Reagan and Bush 1 ...

That should be brought up every fucking time they mention Fox News or Roger Ailes...

2. Knowing this tidbit of information......
came in handy while discussing politics with the owner of restaurant. He is an affable fellow but bush-bot all the way. He was reciting the "fair and balanced" bullshit. I informed him of Roger Ailes and he didn't even know who he was.

I then offered to lend him my copy of "Outfoxed" and told him some of the sneaky shit Fox pulls in framing their coverage. He didn't have much of a response and seemed surprised I didn't share his esteem of that network.

It is nice to have facts, and it was a very nice meal.

4. Old news my friend. And Ailes is no ordinary GOP hack. He was a disciple

and cohort of Lee Atwater. Atwater was also a political mentor and close friend of Karl Rove. Atwater pioneered the vicious sleaze attack style of political campaigns and gave new definition to underhanded. Ailes is part of his original dirty tricks gang and is 100% media savey. It was Atwater and Ailes that engineered the media campaign that defeated Dukakis. There is a reason why Faux News is as slimey and unprincipled as it is today, and its name is Roger Ailes.

6. Old news is right
They get away with this crap because people just take it for granted that everyone knows, and most people do NOT know about these RW scumbags who run this propganda network.

15. Whether or not it is news is beside the point.

(In fact, that is Fox "News" real motto.)

It's a debate strength, not news. Who cares if it is news?

16. my point is that this information has been at hand and available for a
long time now. Those who we think are in a best position to use this information and confront the beast head-on have known it for a long, long time. Ailes wasn't hired by Faux quietly and in a vacuum. On the contrary, it was trumpeted far and wide with much fanfare. I often speculate why those that champion truth and impartiality in the media have not met Ailes and his sordid brand of "news" head on. The reason? Ailes is viciously unscrupulous. Remember he and kkkarl rove came from the same nest of vipers, and had the same mentor(s). When dealing with this faction, throw fairness, good sportsmanship, courtesy, manners and honor out of the window. They care about none of it. To them, the end ALWAYS justifies the means. It doesn't matter how you win, or really if you win at all. Just as long as you get the prize, even if you have to lie, cheat, murder and steal to get it.

17. Point taken.
Thanks for the additional information. Sorry to be so testy. "It's old news," is something the GOP uses to try to smother discussion. So it sets me off. I try to make a habit of stating and restating the obvious every once in a while. There is news, and there is awareness. Some things need to be made a continuous matter of awareness until they sink in. It's like the Big Truth working as the opposite of a Big Lie. Ailes running Fox "News" is an enormity in plain sight.

And I completely agree with you on the kind of people we are dealing with.

19. thank you. as far as I am concerned, Murdoch and Faux openly declared
their intentions when they hired Ailes. Ailes is an absolute master of the media bait and switch, specializing in presenting the Big Lie as truth and then restructuring reality to support the lie. Nothing would please me more than a new critical examination of Faux news and Roger Ailes. It is no exaggeration to say that without Faux news and their blatant manipulation of the facts in (s)Election 2000, bush* would not be sitting at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. It was bush*'s cousin--working for Faux--that originally called Florida for bush*, even though other networks and exit polling had declared Gore the winner. Ailes and Faux have gone beyond just distorting the news, they've taken an active approach to re-writing history to suit their needs.

11. most of our cesspool of current politics can be laid at the feet of Tricky
Dick and his happy henchmen. First of all the media. Nixon--and henchmen--blamed the free and independent media for bringing down his Presidency. Remember, that was in the days when the media--basically print, television was just rising--was pretty much fair and impartial. As Nixon returned to San Clemente in disgrace, wheels were set in motion to covertly begin infiltrating and controlling the media. Also part of Nixon's rethuglicans was one George Herbert Walker Bush*, head of the CIA and intimate of the House of Al Saud. Another alumnus of the Nixon Whitehouse was none other than our own Darth Cheney. From Wikipedia:

"Dick Cheney's political career began in 1969, during the Nixon administration. He held a number of positions in the years that followed: special assistant to the Director of the OEO, White House staff assistant, assistant director of the Cost of Living Council, and Deputy Assistant to the President. Under President Gerald Ford, Cheney became Assistant to the President and then the youngest White House Chief of Staff in history. Many have pointed to this time as the point where both he and Donald Rumsfeld began consolidating political power. An article in Rolling Stone said, "Having turned Ford into their instrument, Rumsfeld and Cheney staged a palace coup. They pushed Ford to fire Defense Secretary James Schlesinger, tell Vice President Nelson Rockefeller to look for another job and remove Henry Kissinger from his post as national security adviser. Rumsfeld was named secretary of defense, and Cheney became chief of staff to the president."

And yet another graduate of the Tricky Dick school of politics is our own Donald Rumsferatu, also from Wikipedia:

"Rumsfeld resigned from Congress in 1969 — his fourth term — to serve in the Nixon Administration as Director of the United States Office of Economic Opportunity, Assistant to the President, and a member of the President's Cabinet (1969-1970); named Counselor to the President in December of 1970, Director of the Economic Stabilization Program; and member of the President's Cabinet (1971-1972).

In 1971 President Nixon was recorded saying about Rumsfeld "At least Rummy is tough enough" and "He's a ruthless little bastard. You can be sure of that."<4>

In February of 1973, Rumsfeld left Washington to serve as U.S. Ambassador to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) in Brussels, Belgium. He served as the United States' Permanent Representative to the North Atlantic Council and the Defense Planning Committee, and the Nuclear Planning Group. In this responsibility, he represented the United States on wide ranging military and diplomatic matters."

My point? This illicit cast of characters--and many more I have not named--has appeared now in FOUR presidencies. Four. This latest, of course is the p(R)esidency of bush*--with nagging doubts about its legality and authenticity.

14. Unfortunately there is far more to it. This same cabal has far-reaching
influence and tentacles. The despots comprising this latest incarnation of bushco* have worked long and hard to position themselves and their sponsors--the petroleum mafia and the military/industrial complex--where they are now. Their ascendancy is no accident. Neither is their hard-right turn to Theo-Corporate fascism. These are people that believe democracy is just an illusion to fool the rubes. The same champion new world orders featuring dynastic imperialism and corporate aristocracy.
