Shame on every last one of them.
Republicans just DON'T get it do they. It's not the fact that they had
a pedophile in their midst, it is how they've handled that fact and
how it taints them all.

John Stewart nailed the early developments in the story, including the
clueless spin from Newt Gingrich, a disgraced former Republican
revolutionary who helped Foley get his job and White House
spokesperson Tony Snow. Showing typical Bush administration acumen at
sizing up available intelligence, Snow described Foley's conduct as
naughty email. Gingrich said Republicans couldn't have acted over
fears of "gay bashing." (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kwTMdTqtVmw)

Not that that fear of gay bashing slowed down other Republicans.
Family Research Council president Tony Perkins is blaming it on a
cabal of Gay Republicans, and according to David Corn of the nation, a
list of gay staffers is circulating amongst Republicans.
(http://thinkprogress.org/2006/10/05/couric-gay/) A lie being widely
circulated as "fact" on Republican talk shows and in the mainstream
media is that homosexuals are more likely to be pedophiles.

You can consult PEDIATRICS, the official journal of the American
Academy of Pediatrics for more accurate data, like 98% of molested
males and 99.6% of molested girls are victims of HETEROsexuals.

Bill Kristol blamed Florida voters.
(http://mediamatters.org/items/200610040006) Limbaugh said it was the
fault of the pages themselves.

All of this obscures the trail that is emerging that top GOP lawmakers
have covered up for Foley for years. All the way back to the
"Republican Revolution."

In fact, when cornered over these allegations last year, Hastert's
office referred Foley over to Tom Reynolds with the RNCC and Foley
donated $100000 re-elect Republicans, apparently as penance.

For his part, the coward Reynolds hid behind children at his press
conference. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o946ObydUO8&eurl=) To
their credit, some GOP members have the good sense to give their
pedophile hush-money to charity.

I've also seen this predatory pedophile compared to Bill Clinton more
than once. They desperately want to equate Clinton's affair with a
consenting adult and his personal denial with their decade long
enabling of a scumbag predator of the worst sort. They want to equate
Clinton's lying about Monica with their cover up.

There is simply no comparison. The Republican leadership was
responsible for these children.

When these pages came forward, and in the case of the message that
broke this story it has been more than a year, they were ignored. They
were told to ignore it. They were shoved aside.

In desperation they begged someone to investigate.

They begged Fox News to tell the story, and Fox said no.
They begged St. Petersburg Times.
They begged The Miami Herald.

The answer was always no. NOBODY was looking out for these kids.

When ABC finally got the story, they posted a brief online and called
Foley's office to confirm the salacious IM records they were receiving
from pages. What did Foley do? He resigned before they even ran the
story, within two hours in fact.

If the Republicans had done just that, this story would have ended a
year ago before it began, or maybe even way back in 1994 before Foley
had a decade to hone is abusive craft.

This is just like ALL of the many scandals this Republican Revolution
has brought us from sex slaves and sweatshop workers in the Marianas
islands to fleecing the American Indians to rubber stamping torture
and the elimination of habeus corpus on the part of the White House.
The weak and the innocent are sacrificed to expediency and greed.

Shame on them. Shame on every last one of them.

2. Thanks for the details.
I assumed that Rush Pigbaugh would attack the pages. I just didn't know that he'd actually done it yet. Just makes me wonder what the RW media personalities and the Thug on the Street WOULDN'T try to excuse. I mean, if Foley confessed to devient sexual intercourse with a little kid, would THAT be too much. Even at the height of Reagan Worship there wasn't this determination to convince the world that the Prez and other Thugs NEVER did ANYTHING wrong.

4. shame??? . . . these people HAVE no shame. . .
and no conscience . . .

to them, the problem with Foleygate is NOT what the Congressman DID . . . it's that one of their own got caught doing something unethical, immoral, and/or illegal . . .

because every damned one of them does something unethical, immoral, and/or illegal on a daily basis -- and they know it . . . it's how they "govern," and it's now being threatened -- and they're running scared . . .

couldn't happen to a nicer bunch, imo . . .

7. Good summary on the spin. My outrage at the absense of accountability
Edited on Fri Oct-06-06 12:13 PM by zonkers
grows daily. The spin of all these spokesmen is shameful. Yeah, this scandal will have a political effect, but it's existence and impact transcends any political motives. It tears at the fabric of a good society.

I wish the victims, or any victim/spokesman would come forward and put these bastards to shame.
