Action Alert- "Tell Speaker Hastert to Step Down." And pass it on.
A cc also goes to your own U.S. Reps. Keep the pressure on them.

Site form letter, editable.

I'm writing to call on you to immediately resign your position as Speaker of the House.

There's abundant evidence that you knew of Rep. Mark Foley's predatory behavior towards high school boys serving in the House page program. Kirk Fordham warned your senior staff about Foley in "more than one conversation" in 2004.

Then again in 2005, you received copies of emails that you've described as simply "overly-friendly." However, the recipient of those emails from Mr. Foley repeated the word "sick" 13 times when he forwarded the messages along…and even conservative pundit Bay Buchanan has said that one of the emails "had predator stamped all over it."

Your protestations of ignorance and innocence just don't pass the smell test with me. I find it unconscionable that you did nothing to protect the young people serving in the House over which you preside. I therefore ask that you resign your position as House Speaker immediately.

I look forward to your reply to my letter.

Sincerely,

(your name)

1. OR keep lying and spinning and take your whole party down with you
I prefer that he stays on till the bitter end. Then the Democrats take both the House and the Senate. THEN WE IMPEACH THEM ALL.

2. Not a chance. I want Hastert there all the way to Nov.

What's the frickin' deal with Working For Change? This ain't exactly rocket science, ya know. Repub candidates and commentators are calling for Hastert to resign because they are afraid that he is tanking their chances in Nov.---and they're right. He is.

So why the hell would Working For Change want to help Republicans get elected?

Talk about half-assed.

House Republicans Move to Back Hastert
Speaker Gains Support as Lawmakers, President Seek Best Defense Against Scandal

For now, they said, it would be politically disastrous for Republicans to oust Hastert because it would be viewed as akin to a public admission of guilt in the scandal, as well as a pre-election victory that would buoy Democrats and help their turnout efforts.

Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) said every Republican lawmaker is rejecting calls from some conservative leaders to oust Hastert. "You are seeing a rally-around-the-speaker effort more than anything else," he said.

Several GOP lawmakers in tough races said voters are not reacting as harshly to the scandal as they first feared, buying Hastert even more room to save his job.

and enabler in place. Don't let them hide out in the anonymous GOP rank and file, behind the skirts of an orchestrated handpicked few. Cut and divide. Get their letters and or cowardly non-responses and Dems need to USE the fact of either one in every one of their own districts between now and November. The time to start doing that is NOW. Make their stink stick to them all the way to the polls.
