There are a lot of grassroots events scheduled in support of Jim Webb's campaign this weekend. He desperately needs your help! I thought I'd post this e-mail from the Arlington Young Democrats, but there are metro blitzes, phone banks and canvasses for volunteers of all ages and abilities. Hope I'll see a few of you out this weekend!

Young Voters Born Fighting to Elect Jim Webb to the U.S. Senate

It's time to put the last nail in George Allen's political coffin. To break a dead heat in the polls (43%-43%, Mason Dixon, 9/29) and win in November, we need to get 18-35 year old voters to the polls…as they are among the most likely to vote Democratic BUT the least likely to vote. To motivate this pro-Webb base, we want you folks from VA and DC to join us….the tech-savvy, George Allen-weary Generation Webb!

In conjunction with the Arlington Young Democrats, we will host several events this month to mobilize young volunteers and young voters. Check out the happenings below, tell your friends, and send us your ideas to help turnout the youth vote for Jim Webb! Volunteers of all ages are welcome to participate.

October 4-10 REGISTER FOR WEBB METRO BLITZ

(reg. deadline 10/10!)

There's nothing more tangible and satisfying than registering someone to vote...especially when they're under 35 and live in Northern Virginia. Arlington, Alexandria, and Fairfax voted convincingly for Tim Kaine in 2005 and the even more Democratic-leaning younger demographic dominates the metro commute. We’ll hit local metro stops to make sure our transient population is registered before Election Day. Volunteers of all ages are welcome to register voters and hand out literature.

We also will be leaving voter registration information at apartment buildings, supermarkets, bars and other locations over the weekend.

October 4-10 GEN WEBB TEXTS THE VOTE
REGISTER YOUR FRIENDS VIA CELL PHONE (b4 10/10!)

What better way to get your friends in the voting booth by sending them a message through their number one communication addiction….their life-giving cell phone. Send a mass text to your buddies that are new in town or possibly unregistered, to tell them to text the number “75444”with the message keyword "virginiavoter" to get registered. They will receive from TxtVoter a request for their email address, where they will receive an online voter registration form they can print and mail by October 10 to vote in Virginia on November 7th! Sample message: “Hi! Do you need 2 register 2 vote? Text 75444 and type in the keyword “virginiavoter” to get a form by email.”

REGISTER FOR WEBB HAPPY HOUR VISIBILITY IN CLARENDON

Spread the word about Jim Webb and that it’s time to register to vote (the 10/10 deadline is fast approaching) at your favorite bars. You are invited to meet at Whitlow’s on Friday to show your “Born Fighting” pride by giving away Webb lit and stickers while talking to young voters about the election. We plan to migrate to neighboring bars in Clarendon after 8:00. Also, if anyone is going to the Cap City Bar Tour on Saturday, let us know if you’d like to do Webb visibility in DC too.

Saturday, Oct. 7 MOON WALK FOR WEBB
GEN WEBB CANVASS + AL GORE FILM VIEWING!

Make a few small steps for a canvasser and a giant leap to elect Jim Webb! Talking to voters door-to-door is one of the most valuable ways we can motivate our neighbors to get to the polls for Jim Webb and our Democratic ticket this Election Day. So, sleep in on Saturday, then stroll over to Webb HQ at 1pm to meet voters while teamed up with your fellow Gen Webb’ers.

Afterward, canvassers are welcome to head to Arlington Cinema & Drafthouse (2903 Columbia Pike, off Walter Reed) for a beer and a 4:40 pm discounted showing of the Al Gore film, "An Inconvenient Truth". The film will also be shown at 4:40 pm on Sunday for people who are canvassing the next day.

Afterward, we plan to hit Dr. Dremo's to drink our Bush-era sorrows away. Other canvass days/times are also available. Come get your walk on.

Co-sponsored with the Arlington Young Democrats, Virginia Young Democrats and DC Young Democrats, come to the Hawk n Dove for a “Commonwealth Meets Capitol Hill” Networking Night to kick off GENERATION WEBB: Young Voters Born Fighting to Elect Jim Webb to the U.S. Senate. This is a great opportunity to invite your GOP “do nothing” Congress-recessed and other DC political friends for some socializing, networking and recruiting to help Jim Webb stop “Allen ’08” in ’06! ($5 contributions encouraged). Special guest speakers are planned. Drink specials include $1.50 Miller Light until 9pm.

Webb really needs more support. Allen raised 12 Mio compared to Webb's 1,2 Mio. But despite that fact, Webb is still such a competitive candidate.
