3. I remember it well

my freshman year in college, I recall watching it on the news in our dorm lounge.

I was in my hometown recently shopping at the department store where I worked during the summer of 1974. I couldn't resist going downstairs to visit the department I worked in where we watched Nixon give his resignation speech. IIRC the store nearly came to a halt for a while as everyone crowded into the electronics dept to watch.

At the time we thought that we'd all learned an important lesson and that we'd never see this kind of thing happen again in our lifetime.
