MSNBC Poll: Streisand tells pro-Bush heckler to shut the fuck up
What do you think about Barbra's outburst?

12494 responses

If you go to a Streisand show you should expect anti-Bush comments, 31%

She should just skip the politics and sing, 49%

Boycott Barbra! Nobody deserves to be spoken to in that manner, 20%

The story:

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/15207246/

There was Streisand, enduring a smattering of loud jeers as she and “George Bush” — a celebrity impersonator — muddled through a skit that portrayed the president as a bumbling idiot.

Though most of the crowd offered polite applause during the slightly humorous routine, it had gone on a bit too long, especially for those who just wanted to hear Streisand sing like she had been doing for the past hour.

“Come on, be polite!” the well-known liberal implored during the sketch as she and “Bush” exchanged zingers. But one heckler wouldn’t let up. And finally, Streisand let him have it.

“Shut the (expletive) up!” Streisand bellowed, drawing wild applause. “Shut up if you can’t take a joke!” With that one F-word, the jeers ended. And the message was delivered — no one gets away with trying to upstage Barbra Streisand, especially not in her hometown.

1. Another hard-hitting question by the corporate media whores. Good
thing there's absolutely nothing else of import out here to concern themselves with.:eyes:

4. This was a set-up.
Now the "news" Whores can bash Hollywood. Also, it was not Babs who brought up politics at the show, it was the pro-Bush heckler.

17. In all fairness,
if she was doing a skit with a Bush impersonator on stage, it would appear that, in fact, she WAS the one who brought up politics. That doesn't change the fact that the heckling was probably calculated to get just such a response so the wingers could talk about how Streisand blew up.

5. How hard is it to portray bush as a bumbling idiot?
And I was in the Navy for 20+ years. "Nobody deserves to be spoken to in that matter??" I have to chuckle.

6. Well, she's taken lessons from Cheney, apparently.
If our VP can talk like that in public, so can Babs, as far as I'm concerned.

8. This was unhelpful.
I hope ordinary Americans don't think Babs is the face of the Democratic party, because she's not.

12. So Barba Streisand isn't allowed to voice opinions?
That's very "democratic" of you. :sarcasm:

Every time I see a post like this on DU I wonder what the motivation is. Why isn't Streisand supposed to have political opinions? What makes you think that "ordinary Americans" are so stupid they're going to read this silly, slanted article then rush out to vote for the party of child molesters? To be honest I'm sick to death of these "sky is falling" posts that imply that we won't win elections because of one statement from one person out of the 100 million Democrats out there isn't exactly what we wanted to hear.

"Oh woe! Streisand said 'Fuck!' Now we'll never win the congress back! Ordinary American's won't vote for the party that stands up for itself. Let's get some more Daschles and Gephardts in office. They knew how not to offend people."

really, I'd be surprised if she hadn't said, 'STFU!' to the heckler. LOL, good for her.

MSNBC should be ashamed of using their influence to devote to a poll of whether a hollywood icon should or should not have expressed an opinion or challenged a heckler...it is the reverse side of "The Strawberry Statement"....In '68 the students of Columbia University occupied the university's Presidents office-the students were opposed to investments made by the university had made in real estate which they felt were detrimental to the community in which the university in which the college was located...The actual "Strawberry Statement" was from the president who, when asked about whether the students concerns was valid replied, "Asking whether the students approved of the university's investments was like asking "Do they like Strawberries?""....In one case too much is made of opinions because the holder of the opinion is a media icon-in the other, too little is made of the opinion because the speaker underestimated the moral suasion of the speakers. One is distraction-the other held the seeds of a revolution...

16. LOL!!!
I would've paid just to see that moment.

So 20% think nobody deserves to be spoken to in that manner? Well I wonder what they would've thought when the repugs, the chimp...and his wife...their supporters just have democratic hecklers physically harassed, verbally insulted and threatened by security. That's for anyone who disagrees with them who actually make it into their events to begin with or are allowed within a couple thousand yard range of them - that's after strong arm Bruno does a once over of their clothes for slogans and their cars....or maybe they just have a Democrat look about them: "we'll take your money, but you ain't allowed in!"

If I were Babs, I wouldn't waste my breathe on them. I'd just nod to security and have them thrown out..and keep their money as well. :-)
