Anyone watching Barack Obama on Keith Olbermann?
Is it me, or does he appear more seasoned than he did a year ago?

More Seasoned...more confident (if that is Possible)
and simply he has a good head on his shoulders....

And he is talking about just plain commen sense and Americans are ready for a dose of that and reality...

7. Food for thought...
My hard-core Republican mother (who still thinks Bush is wonderful) say's she'd vote for Obama for President if he ran. That kind of broad appeal is hard to come by.

8. Barak enjoys the broad appeal that Colin Powell had and John
McCain unfortunately still has. If Barak take a mind to run, we'd be fools not to welcome that. Unfortunately, Americans are still about shallow attributes like charisma and likability.

11. Moreover, there is still a lot of racism in the US
Obama could not likely carry any southern or border state.

"Obama could not likely carry any southern or border state."

I dunno- wait and see how Harold Ford does in Tennessee- he's leading in the polls there. And we don't need to win Mississippi, just Ohio and states like that.

I get goose bumps listening to Obama, he's that good. The only downside is he hasn't said he's running. At this point with Gore and Warner, two guys I liked, having refused to run, I don't want to get my hopes up. I feel a little like a guy who's having Elisha Cuthbert flirting with him- it seems too good to be true.

Please, please run Obama. Until he says he is running, though I'm going to have to keep my enthusiasm in check. It's not enough to have game, you've got to enter the arena.

certainly entertain Obama. Obama has Clinton-esque magic. Also, after their bush folly they may be of a mind to repent and do a total 360 as far as their preconceived beliefs go. And don't forget, they could justify their votes because Obama is half white. :)

34. He might carry a Southern state, afterall, Ford is poised to
win Tennessee. You people really need to catch up with the times. The racists are all in the mid-West now.

:eyes:

Seriously, there's racism everywhere, but I do agree with your assessment that Obama couldn't win because of said racism.

14. Which would you rather have ...
"Far as I am concerned, he has already sold his soul."

Would you rather have a candidate who talks a good liberal game and loses or one who tries to reach out to the center and wins? In case you haven't noticed- the only way we've won since Jimmy Carter is with a candidate - Clinton - who reached out to the center. Personally, I'm tired of losing. And I have faith in Obama that his heart is in the right place.

19. Good point Rigel!
But there's a lot of defeatists on DU and in the party, unfortunately. I'm sick of losing too. Our nominee will have to reach out to the center of the country in order to win. Heavy turnout of progressives in S.F., L.A., Seattle, and NYC will not win us the White House! Our nominee will have to speak to the whole country and Obama is kinda guy who could do that.

21. I watched the Olbermann interview
and Obama gave solid answers to Keith's questions. Obama agrees with Keith's past comments on the loss of habeas corpus and other civil liberties under Bush. It doesn't follow that I am endorsing him for President, but then, the only thing I am certain about is who I don't want to see win the nomination in 2006.

24. Obama is focused and he doesn't let anyone lead him down
a path he hasn't explored. I think he is being very cautious, keeping his nose clean and only doing what he feels will enhance his resume for the job of President of the US. He wants it, he's just marking his time...reminds me of Tiger Woods in how they can both concentrate on their target. Not a bad trait. If not 2008...how about 2012? Who's going to want to clean up Bush's messes?

26. He can't count on 2012 ...
since a Democrat will probably win this time and will be running for re-election in 2012. So Obama has to assume that it's either this year or 2016. And 2016 is when his Senate seat comes up for re-election- can a person be on the ballot for both president and Senator?

37. Can't count on 2016 either - if Dem wins in 2008 . . .
He or she will run for reelection in 2012. In 2016, it is very likely that the Vice President will be the presumptive candidate.

If Obama wants to run, he needs to seriously consider doing it in 2008. It could be 20 years or more before a wide open chance will come around again.

28. Here's something he said that scares the dickens out of me.
Not anything about him. Just one of his observations.

It's when he was talking about the MCA, and how, apparently, that bill had been expected to pass with no more than 8 or 10 votes against it, and be a cornerstone of the Repub "tough on terror" campaign strategy, and it was only after extensive discussion (I read: arguments) in the Democratic caucus that they managed to get as many votes against it as it did.

I think most of us here were horrified that so many people voted FOR it. But according to Obama's account, which I have no reason not to believe, getting even there was a struggle.

Wow. Vertigo. This bill should have been a complete no-brainer thumbs down. And yet, those precious few with SOME lingering regard for the Constitution had to fight even other Democrats to the mat over it.

Wow.

32. You gotta like the guy
He's smart and well spoken and he comes off as a real human being.

I'd prefer to see him as running mate to Al Gore in 2008 and have him gain experience in the Vice President's office but if Gore chooses not to run, we could certainly do worse.

Ordinary people like him and that counts a great deal.

35. Barack Obama: 9/11 fever has broken
Here is the transcript:

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/15358236/

Barack Obama: 9/11 fever has broken

Obama says Democrats are ready to challenge the White House

OLBERMANN:
I want to talk about the book and this buzz in the second half of our interview.

But let me begin, if I can, by asking you about the current political climate as epitomized by that new Republican ad, and keep in mind that, you know, 18 days before the midterm elections, it’s crunch time. How do you, how does your party overcome the politics of fear, especially down the stretch like this?

OBAMA: Well, first of all, I think it’s important for us to directly engage the issue of national security. You know, after 9/11, it was understandable that everybody rallied around the president. And I think that Democrats were hesitant to challenge the president on his national security agenda.

I think this election, you’re seeing the fever break, and people step back and say the consequences of a series of decisions by this administration have resulted in a fiasco in Iraq, a climate in which terrorists are actually growing in numbers around the world. We haven’t done much about homeland security, and we’ve got two hostile nations, Iran and North Korea, rapidly developing or already having developed nuclear weapons.

And I think that’s a conversation that we should welcome.

One of the interesting things I’m seeing around the country, though, is, those kinds of ads are not working very well. And that’s why your previous guest, I think, pointed out the number of potential races that are up for grabs this time out are actually growing as opposed to diminishing.
