MARSHALL, N.C. -- Emma Jean Radford almost always votes an anti-abortion ballot, which means she almost always votes Republican -- even when she doesn't like the GOP candidate.

But this year, the high school teacher is thinking about voting for a Democrat. And that doesn't bode well for veteran Rep. Charles Taylor and his party, which could lose control of the House if Taylor and others fall victim to a potential Democratic surge driven by the war in Iraq and dissatisfaction with President Bush.

As long as Schuler caucuses with the Dems, it counts toward the Dem majority & toward Nancy Pelosi rather than the likes of Hastert. If Schuler winning meant John Coners would chair the Judiciary Committee, what would your vote be?

4. reminds me of my parents

both lifetime Repubicans who abhorred religious politcs, they would talk about tolerating the bible thumping right wing to get Senate commitee positions for John Heinz. However, as it turned out, neither they or Heinz are around today and their party is more fundie than ever. What it reminds me of is that in politics, it's the lever that does all the moving.

That sald, it is a representative government, and you have to represent the people of that district. There are better or worse ways to do that, and that's what people should be concentrating on - finding their collectively best representative not gaming a power struggle in Washington, IMO.
