Great move by them. If the fascists hold on to their majority by one vote they can count ANWR as their crowning achievment in the next 2 years. Jack asses.

1. That does it, I will not renew my membership.
I've had it with them endorsing people who have been associated with the on-going envoronmental disaster. Not with another dime of mine. Greenepeace will like my money.

3. Are you confused by my post
or their stupidity? I didn't know if I wasn't clear.

10. You were clear.
I'm just confused by the actions of the Sierra Club. I guess I should have been clearer. :)

4. Make sure you are hearing it from the real Sierra Club.

In my district, PA-06, there is a guy going around saying at public meetings that the PA Sierra Club is endorsing Gerlach (R) over Lois Murphy (D). When contacted, the Sierra Club said they are not making any endorsement in the race.

I don't know if this could be the same in your district, but it might be, since the two districts are nearby and could involve some of the same individuals.

Do you have any kind of link or official release from the Sierra Club with the endorsement?

5. Unfortunately, it looks real

I went to the National Sierra Club site - and found the 2006 page for endorsements - Fitzgerald is on it. This appears to be the real site.

You are correct on the 6th district.

6. It seems part of the effort by these groups to endorse a few people who are
not Democrats.

However, what did he do on their key issue to win this endorsement?

8. Well
This is a tight race and the 8th is heavily R so I'm thinking that they're thinking Fitz will probably win and they want to stay on his good side.

9. Here is why
He's fairly green for a thug and I'm sure the SC doesn't want to burn a bridge:

7. My guess is that Fitzpatrick chairs a powerful committee and has
been friendly to their policies in the past.

Precisely why I avoid single-issue politics like the plague.

I checked their endorsement page; it's for real.

11. Don't blame the Sierra Club or Fitzpatrick. Give credit where it's due. Look...
If the Sierra Club felt Murphy had a better record on the environment than Fitzpatrick, they'd give their endorsment to him, not Fitzpatrick.

Here's a quote from the Sierra Club:

“Sierra Club understands we need to support members of Congress from both parties who take strong stands to protect both environmental and public health, so we enthusiastically endorse Mike Fitzpatrick for re-election,”said Jeff Schmidt, director of the Sierra Club, Pennsylvania Chapter.

Schmidt said, “Mike Fitzpatrick has shown that he is a strong environmental supporter and is willing to oppose the Bush administration's anti-environmental policies.”

He pointed out Fitzpatrick's votes against drilling in the Artic National Wildlife Preserve, against attempts to weaken water quality, votes for wetlands protection, and mercury pollution.

Don't put the blame where it doesn't belong

12. Welcome to post 9 of the thread.
I agree. I wonder how he votes on all of Bush's other orwellian environmental policies.
