The media in the final stretch, and Kerry brilliantly jumped on an opportunity!
Edited on Tue Oct-31-06 03:11 PM by ProSense
When NJ passed its civil union law, the media blitz was that it fired up the RW base.
When Allen smeared Webb, the media blitz was Lynne "Sisters" Cheney video, and demand for an explanation.

The RW tried to stir up controversy today, and the media helped them. Instead it presented a perfect opportunity to expose RW hysteria and smears, and Kerry did a brilliant job of bringing them out of the woodwork!

Kerry also fired up the base! Will the media report that?

Democrats need to speak the truth! The hell with RW frenzy and the media!

2. .
I hope that the majority saw Kerry's response and not the smears and distortions from the media. I heard that MSNBC didn't even broadcast his press conference.
It's always the question what will stick in the voters mind: the accusations or the later clarifications.

I'm sure that the Repubs will make it a topic. Besides smearing, they can't run on anything else as they have been complete failures. Whenever they do make it a topic, I hope that there is a Dem who kicks their asses without any mercy like Kerry did today.

3. Actually, it depends on how the media plays it out....
But I'm not sure that the focus in the last few days should be on someone who's not running.

We shall see how this helps or hurt.

The fact that the entire flap revolves around Iraq is a good thing though......for Democrats!

4. Don't agree!
The media manufactures these events! McCain simply calls for an apology for something only the RW is hysterical about and they run with it! Kerry's statement was at an event the media didn't even cover, and it was six days ago! Six days!

6. You don't agree with what that I said exactly?
That it is the media who will determine how this will play out?

or That I'm not sure that the focus in the last few days should be on someone who's not running?

or That We shall see how this helps or hurt?

or That the fact that the entire flap revolves around Iraq is a good thing though......for Democrats?

8. Guess who's no longer in the news?
Lynne Cheney and her negative spin on Webb gone! Did you think that kind of focus was helpful?

I agree that focusing on Iraq is good!

13. Well I hope and pray that you are right......
How about that.

PS. I will note that Webb had already kicked ass on that spin while standing next to Kaine and Warner last night. Will that debunk be reported on now.....I don't know....but Webb seems to have pulled ahead.

Yesterday, Kerry made a comment (well, not the exact comment, but one very similar) to one he's made before, according to reports. So, he's been making this wisecrack about Bush for awhile. Good for him. Yesterday he may, *may* have tripped over his tongue a little bit. A whole 12 hours later, the Republican waaaambulances are out in full force with their manufactured anger and demands for apologies.

What this shows me is that the RW has gotten so desperate that they've been watching very carefully for any opening, or something they can make into an opening, to call their attack dogs down on here in the home stretch. Where was the outrage all the other times Kerry has said basically the same thing? Where was the outrage yesterday? Half a news cycle not good enough for you, Bennett? Hannity? Limbaugh?

So they wait until today to stage this whole brouhaha, only to have Kerry give it back to them twice as hard a couple hours later. Of course, this just feeds into the Republican self-pity party.

The key thing here is that this could have happened to anybody. Any Dem. If it wasn't Kerry, it would have been Murtha. If not Murtha, then Kennedy, or Pelosi, or any of our leaders the other side tries to turn into big, bad liberal characatures. So maybe, *maybe*, Kerry misspoke. The only way to avoid that is by saying nothing at all, and if you do that, the other side has already won.

Considering the alternatives, I'll take what we got today, thank you very much.
