Edwards '08: Talking Tough
The Politico: Edwards '08: Talking Tough
By: Roger Simon
January 31, 2007

In 2004, John Edwards rarely had an unkind word to say about his rivals for the presidency. But it isn't 2004 any more.

Should Hillary Clinton apologize for backing the Iraq war? "That is a moral decision she has to make," Edwards told me.

Is George Bush a "good man in difficult circumstances trying to do the right thing?" No, Edwards said. He is not.

That nonbinding resolution against the Iraq troop surge favored by Barack Obama? "Useless," said Edwards. "Exactly like a child standing in the corner and stomping his feet."

Success teaches little; failure is a wonderful instructor. And Edwards has learned a lot from running and losing last time around.

As the 2008 race gets underway, Edwards has at least four things going for him:

First, a good calendar. The race begins in Iowa, where Edwards came in second in 2004 and where he has a good organization today. He has visited the state 17 times in the last two years....

1. Yes...he learn to talk tough...but he was doing that in 2002 on Iraq,
and he's doing it now on Iran....and in the final analysis that's where I would have hoped to have seen him improved.

3. Obama does not favor a non-binding resolution. He is one of the 5 dems

who voted for Dodd's resolution to cap troops level (Dodd, Kerry,Boxer, Feingold, Obama).

In addition, he has fielded a COMPLETE plan to get all combat divisions out of Iraq before March 08 (By complete, I mean he explains how you get there and how you do it, not just throw a wishful thought and call that a plan).

Talking tough is fine, but you need to have the correct information.

5. Amazing how when they're unemployed they all of a sudden talk tough
but when they're employed they support and co-sponsor an illegal war and vote for the Patriot Act.

Hey, I welcome any tough talking Democrats, only in this case it needs to be taken with a grain of salt, at least a little bit anyway.
