A Gore- Dean ticket ?
Could you support that? After all, Al went out on a limb in the last primary and supported Dean over Joe Lieberman, his former running mate. Could that ticket win?

27. You and me both!
:toast: I'm a Deaniac from way back. But I *am* happy with him as Chair and I think with him in that position we can increase our hold on Congress in '08 and also get our candidate in the White House.

19. Yes, I'd love it and the U. S. and the world would be better off with them in charge.
Just think about the benefits of having the two of them as President and Vice-president.

Too bad it won't happen.

Gore, maybe. (Some slight chance.) But Gore-Dean won't happen. Not a prayer.

Why couldn't Dean do both jobs? V.P. candidate and party chair?

9. Dean said on Hardball last week he had the best job in the world...

And as far as most people here are concerned, he's doing a STELLAR job at it.

Like he said -- he's not running for "Nuttin' Honey"

Governor Dean is quite content.

7. I have no idea what Al Gore's plan for Iraq is...

I mean.. ...if he's even toying with a possible 2008 run, why aren't we hearing his opinions about Iraq and Bush's surge?

I understand that he was an incredible VP, and an incredible candidate who honestly won the 2000 election.. But wracking my brains trying to understand why so many DU'ers believe he's our best shot in '08 and what his plans for Bush's disaster in Iraq are?

We went through a long period of time on DU when in all seriousness, Al Gore was rarely mentioned as a '08 possibility. To be honest, his name really didn't come up on here all that often.

I'm trying SOOOOOO HARD to figure out what it is that propelled him to a favorite in our '08 possibilities?

THANK YOU (any of you Gore supporters) for shedding some light on why "he's the guy"...

13. I can only speak for myself
But there are two reasons: His speeches in '04 (http://www.commondreams.org/views04/0527-01.htm) , and his determination to do something about global warming. Those and the fact that he should be our president right now anyway are enough for me.

16. Thank You Onion Patch!
It will be interesting to see what happens with our primary once he and General Clark FINALLY make up their minds on whether they'll jump in or not.

At this point - it sure looks like Clark is headed that way. Gore- I dunno just yet?

17. It would be a lovely thing. Probably won't happen
Gore the big thinker laying down a vision of where our country should be going.

Dean the streetbrawler smacking down the opposition.

Works for me.

Probably won't happen but it's nice to dream.

18. Let Gore pick his running mate (it won't be Lieberman)
I believe that if Gore enters the race he will win the nomination. After he wins the nomination is the time to consider who would make the best running mate. Maybe Wes Clark?

But it's still too early for Gore to make his decision. He is doing good right now, staying out of the catfight, keeping his options open.

Al Gore is without a doubt the best qualified person for the job, in terms of his experience, knowledge, intelligence and judgement.

There is no hurry for Gore to enter the race for 2008. He is doing a great job raising public awareness about the climate crisis (he spoke to 10 000 people in Boise 2 weeks ago!). Hopefully he might even get on stage at the Academy Awards!

Gore is also busy working on his next book "The Assault on Reason" - to be published in May.
See http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/09/16/AR2006091600877.html

The theme of this book - why we need better decision-making in government - is very timely in relation to next year's Presidential election (whether he runs or not).

Depending on how things pan out, and the reaction to his book, Gore can consider his situation over the summer and announce his decision (or if you prefer - "change his mind") sometime in the fall.

Read Rolling Stone magazine: WHY GORE SHOULD RUN -- AND HOW HE CAN WIN
http://www.rollingstone.com/politics/story/13248532/why_gore_should_run__and_how_he_can_win

Don't forget that Bill Clinton did not start his campaign until October 1991. But Al Gore already has nationwide respect and name recognition that other wannabees can only wish for!

And by the way - Gore is younger than Hillary, Clark, McCain and Guiliani! :)

Unless and until Gore endorses another candidate, we have to assume that he is keeping his options open. So it is too soon for those of us who prefer Gore to switch our allegiance.

Let's all find ways to show our support for Al Gore! :)

25. I think that Howard Dean is exceedingly important where he is.
He can do more to turn around the party and the country as DNC chairman than as VP. As to Gore, I have supported him since he first ran for president in 1992. He has always been a green candidate. I am a stubborn and committed environmentalist. I am for Al whatever decision he makes.

26. Here's the dilemma
We need a candidate like Howard Dean to get the message out and get people to really see what's at stake in 2008. You would think the last 6 years could have opened their eyes and maybe November was proof that they are SLOWLY coming around. Problem is that we need a chairman like Howard Dean to make sure that candidate doesn't get screwed by a DLC-rigged primary and can compete in all 50 states.

How's that human cloning coming along?

I'd vote for any ticket that had Howard Dean's name on it, but I fear that won't be the case in 2008.

Right now, Gore/Clark is looking the best, if it's a matter of President Gore and anyone else currently in the running. Clark isn't "officially" in yet either, but he's speaking at candidate forums, so that says "I'm in" even if he hasn't actually said it yet.

Dean promised he wouldn't run in 2008 if he accepted the chairmanship, but he promised nothing about the vice presidency. Could I support that ticket? I'd work my ass off for it!
