The Obama campaign is preparing to introduce the woman who could become America's first black First Lady to the nation as soon as her husband formally announces his candidacy at a rally in Illinois a week today. Some advisers view Mrs Obama as the campaign's secret weapon.

The "spouse" of a president is certainly a commodity if they are more than just arm candy. They can go out as an emissary of the White House and build goodwill for the president and his OR her policies, or even have causes of their own. If Hillary becomes the next president, don't you think her husband Bill would be a commodity to her? You're interpreting the word "commodity" with a negative connotation. Maybe it's warranted, maybe not, but you can't deny that a president having a spouse certainly presents opportunities, especially a spouse that is strongly their own person and not so much dependent on their their president other-half.
