Bob Barr for Libertarian nominee!
Do you think he would ever run if those on the internet urged him to enough? I mean he is by far the most well-known Libertarian and I'm certain he would take away votes from the Repub nominee.

They funded the Green Party, so its the least we can do.

1. I respect the stand Barr's taken against intrusions of citizen privacy
but never thought much of him before. He seemed terribly eager to throw Bill Clinton out of the White House owing to adultery.

He gives me the creeps when I think of the conservative agenda he'd be likely to advance.

He might go for the Libertarian nod. I can't stop him in any case.

And I hear your point on dividing the GOP vote. That would be a good thing, but I wonder if a rightwinger might be more potent in doing that -- one who would divide the GOP vote more and who wouldn't draw independents?

Just musing.

6. Hi, Ian. Yep. I know some who fit that description exactly.
There's a Don't-Bother-Me-With-Anything attitude that's hard to square with an elevated notion of public service.

Nice to see you on DU tonight.

14. Bob Barr is a right-winger he is not going to take many votes from our side
It is true that the man is occasionally right, but just because he is right once in a while does not make him a moderate. As a matter fact he was one of the most outspoken right-wingers in Congress during his tenure.

I hope he does run, because he would split the right-wing vote and then maybe we would finally be able to get instant runoff voting. I would never vote for the man but I would definitely support his candidacy.

16. Yep. Ol' Bob's from the far right side of Newt Gingrich on many issues.

If Sam Brownshirt -- I mean Brownback -- doesn't get the Republican nomination I could see him breaking off into an independent campaign. If we can split the GOP vote 2 or 3 ways, that's perfectly fine with me.

2. You know who else claim to be Libertarians?
Edited on Sun Feb-04-07 01:23 AM by IanDB1

Matt and Trey.

I think they're even MORE famous than Bob Barr.

You can bet your salty chocolate balls on THAT.

5. Agreed
Of all the ideologies out there, that is the one I disagree with the most (well ok tied with the crazy religious fundies, but at least they may vanish when the age of reason finally descends on us).

That Ayn Rand movie is coming out soon :eyes:-not looking forward to that...

10. Most libertarians aren't libertarian...
It's just a title they use. They're just Republicans who don't like that the Republicans aren't far nough right

13. I'm not sugguesting that I would vote for Bob Barr..
or the Libertarians. I'm not a fan of either, but I think that if he were encouraged to run he would definately win that party's nomination, siphoning votes away from the gop candidate.

19. Bob Barr was Bil Clinton's arch enemy, I hope he falls in a cesspool
I would eat dog shit before I even spoke to him in public. And to even discuss endorsing a Libertarian just annoys me more than a toothache.:grr:

20. Nobody is endorsing a Libertarian...
Barr recently quit the repubs to join the libertarians, I think a lot of other conservatives would follow suit if he would run for president under that party.

This should be encouraged because it would split the conservative vote.. Barr is quite well known and might be able to equal the showing of Ross Perot in 1996.

18. I guess I've been watching another Barr. He strikes me as nothing like a libertarian.
Hasn't he pursued a far right social agenda all his political career?

That far right social agenda is anathema to libertarians.

I respect his stance on the Patriot Act but the fact is that the man needs a gig and he may have found it.

23. Locking.
This message board is for the promotion of democrats and democratic candidates. In the case where a democrat is not running in that race, then third party advocacy is permitted. As we have MANY dems running for president, the third party advocacy in this race doesn't belong on DU.
