Washington Times Publishes False Report On Pelosi’s Use Of Military Aircraft

1) The House Sergeant at Arms, not Pelosi, initiated inquiries into the use of military aircraft. House Sergeant at Arms Wilson Livingood, who has served in his position since 1995, released a statement today clarifying the facts. He writes, “In December 2006, I advised Speaker Pelosi that the US Air Force had made an airplane available to Speaker Hastert for security and communications purposes following September 11, 2001.” Additionally, Livingood writes, “I offered to call the U.S. Air Force and Department of Defense to seek clarification of the guidelines .”

2) A larger plane was requested because Hastert’s plane required refueling to travel cross-country. The Washington Times says a larger plane was requested to accomodate Pelosi, “her staff, other Members and supporters.” That’s not true. In fact, the plane used by Speaker Hastert was too small for Pelosi since it “needs to refuel every 2,000 miles and could not make the nonstop haul to California. ‘The Air Force determined that safety would be best ensured by using a plane that has the fuel capacity to go coast-to-coast,’” a Pelosi spokesperson said.

I mean the sergeant at arms instead of the speaker herself, isn't he doing it directly on her behalf? As for the round trip thing, I can understand it but, it's written in the passive voice, "(it) was requested"...

It's stretching into distinction without a difference territory. Yeah, Pelosi got a bigger plane, in the sense of received, not solicited. That was no lie. The spin on the reasons why was emphasis in the wrong places. That's par for the course for the Washington Times but...

You're acting like it's a lie she now has a bigger plane to begin with...

and they could not guarantee it if they had to stop to refuel at a pre determined location...it would probably cost more to have security at an intermittent location than to have an airplane that could do the job in one landing.

Just because a right wing paper runs the story does not make it a story.
Just because Fucker Carlson does the story still does not make it a story.

They said nothing about it being from the Wash. Times or an exaggeration. So I believed it all.

Gotta say, though, KO was sick or something and one of his subs, Allison Stewart, was anchoring tonight. Wonder if KO would've covered it differently?

7. Me too. Actually I am generally pissed at a lot of the

crap that has been posted on DU lately.

A lot of people posting on here now seem to see things only in black and white (like Bush, Cheney and Repugs), are unable to realize when something is truly a complex issue (simple minded like Repugs including Bush), always forget to assume that there is more to the story (like Repugs, Limpballs and Drudge), and think if they tell/shout enough lies about someone (Hillary for example) it will become truth (like Repugs, corp. media and White House).

I was wishing this past weekend that for the next two years we could have a DU for adults only. Access allowed for mature emotionally evolved posters - wonder if one could develop a test for same.

i posted this the other day and pointed out that there were no links to this story-nothing at all to validate this post. several posters at huffington`s site said the same thing...take a look at the page nine pages of replies. the replies here were just as bad...
