Here's your daily Gore-watch gossip: "Al Gore Calls New Hampshire"
New Hampshire Presidential Watch
A site that tracks all potential presidential candidates in the Granite State during the months
leading up to the First-In-The-Nation Primary.

Al Gore Calls New Hampshire

Former Vice-President, and Oscar nominee, Al Gore recently called a high-profile New Hampshire Democrat. The Granite State Democrat said that he and Gore recently had "a long conversation." The call took place over the weekend and was initiated by Mr. Gore. This Dem is a hot commodity since questions have arisen has to whom they would support in 2008. Is Gore preparing for a possible run?

This was on the Hotline blog: "WHICH Oscar-nominated former Vice President recently initiated a conversation with a prominent New Hampshire Democrat who remains uncommitted to any presidential candidate? "

4. Frankly, I hope he waits.
But I freely acknowledge that he knows better than anyone the right time to start giving signals. If that story is true, then he must feel that some signals now are the right thing. My response to Al?

BOOM-SHAKKA-LAKKA!

10. Many of us who worked our tails off for Bill Bradley thought we had
a shot in New Hampshire.

We ran a good campaign.

Gore's was one better.

He's won in New Hampshire before and could do it again.

That is one interesting telephone call in that article.

It's been one helluva ride since 2000, but this is terrific news if it's true! Just the little bit of encouragement we need to keep working toward a Gore presidency.

Run, Al, run!

Why are the names never disclosed? And how do you know the conversation was about him? Maybe he was talking about who he will ultimately endorse.

16. Maybe he dialed the wrong number ..
With all the new area codes its not hard to do.
Maybe he was trying to punch in 609 instead of 603.
So why all the fuss? :)

The Boston Globe - Primary Source

Don't read too much into D'Allesandro-Gore phone call

A report this morning that New Hampshire state Senator Lou D'Allesandro, a Manchester Democrat, had talked to former Vice President Al Gore had many in New Hampshire's political community talking, but it appears there isn't much to it.

D'Allesandro said he called Gore on Sunday to simply congratulate him on his nominations for the Nobel Prize and an Oscar for his documentary "An Inconvenient Truth".

"He was very, very good to me when he was Vice President and I consider him a friend," D'Allesandro told the Globe.

D'Allesandro said there was no conversation about a Gore presidential run.

"It never came up," he said.

In 2004, D'Allesandro supported John Edwards for president and while he hasn't committed to Edwards for a second run, he said he most likely will eventually.

21. Thanks
At least I know the name now in answer to my question and that the original link was full of lies. It claimed Mr. Gore initiated the phone call and that isn't then true according to what Mr. D'Allesandro stated.

23. So there's hope for all camps
Those who simply hate the idea of Gore as Prez., those who fear nothing more than a Gore run because they know their choice would be out and those of us who would like to see President Gore take his rightful place in the WH.

Now that's something.

25. And those who see him as better than a President
You forgot them in your desire to push people into your own holes to suit your purposes. Al Gore knows this system is toxic and corrupt with a population on the whole too uninformed to either care or have the tools and desire to know what to do about it, and I do not believe he wants to have anything to do with that especially seeing how much he can now do as a successful statesman and private citizen to rectify it. To me he is much greater than any president who in this country is only a pawn of the military industrial complex. He has heart, soul, morals, honor, conscience, and vision... Qualities that being a part of this DC system can be washed away faster than the shore of an Indonesian island due to rising sea levels. So you and your counterparts here can sit and spew your invectives all you like, but it is out of DEEP respect and love for the man that I desire to see him FOR ONCE have the freedom he has longed for to influence events as I believe he can only do as he is doing now. I support him for who he is, not "what" I want him to be, and above all I want to see real progress begin on the climate crisis besides people spending all day bitching over what group they fall into.

28. Faulty logic
Why do you automatically assume that someone's lying here? Isn't it possible that D'Allesandro made a call to Gore this weekend in which they discussed his Nobel and Oscar nominations, but that Gore himself made a call to someone else in New Hampshire over the weekend in which they discussed his support in the state, putting out feelers for a possible run? Neither situation precludes the other. Both could well have happened, in which case, no one's lying.

The original piece (from a credible source) says that Gore initiated the call. And did it ever occur to anyone that D'Allesandro's supposed recantation of the story could be a way to quiet down the sudden rumors that Gore's running, that this could be a deliberately planted "leak" from the Gore camp that's then just as deliberately tamped down to keep it from getting out of control?

Let's not go calling anyone a liar until we know what really happened. Until that time, anything's possible here.

31. Uncle Joe knows the score
Why run when you can walk?

Let the other candidates do their damage to each other. Let the Republicans self-destruct. Let the front-runner deal with overly high expectations. And then when the front runner stumbles and faces disappointment it will be time for a hero to ride in and Unite the Democratic Party, lead us to Victory, and Restore Democracy in America!

Al Gore President 2008

let us join together and make it so

32. I agree - there's no big rush
First of all: let me say that Al Gore is the best qualified person for the job, in terms of his experience, knowledge, intelligence and judgement.

As to the question of whether he will run -- I think Al Gore is keeping his options open right now, watching how the "pre-season" goes. I don't think he yet knows what he will do.

There is no hurry for Gore to enter the race for 2008. He is doing a great job raising public awareness about the climate crisis (he spoke to 10 000 people in Boise last month, and is speaking at a Conference in England today). He will testify at a US Congressional Hearing in Washington on March 21st. Hopefully he might even get on stage at the Oscar ceremony on Feb 25th! :)

Gore is also busy working on his next book "The Assault on Reason" - to be published in May. The theme of this book - why we need better decision-making in government - is very timely (whether he runs or not).

Depending on how things pan out, and the reaction to his book, Gore can consider his situation over the summer and announce his decision (or if you prefer - "change his mind") sometime in the fall.

Don't forget that Bill Clinton did not kick-off his campaign until October 1991. But Al Gore already has nationwide respect and name recognition that other wannabees can only wish for!

And by the way - Gore is younger than Hillary, Clark, McCain and Guiliani! :)

Unless and until Gore endorses another candidate, we have to assume that he is keeping his options open. So it is too soon for those of us who prefer Gore to switch our allegiance.

Let's all find ways to show our support for Al Gore! :)
