GORE: Draft Gore Petition Crosses 25,000 Mark as Interest in Gore Candidacy Surges
WASHINGTON, Feb. 6 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- An Internet petition
urging Al Gore to run for president crossed the 25,000 mark this weekend in
a surge of signatures following Gore's nomination for the 2007 Nobel Peace
Prize. Signatures now average more than 500 a day. Interest in a Gore
candidacy has also spurred a sharp increase in web hits and donations.
Gore had already been the overwhelming choice for president among the
"netroots" for a long time. Polls by popular Democratic blogs such as
DailyKos and AlterNet had Gore leading the nearest contenders by a factor
of more than 5 to 1. (See http://www.dailykos.com/poll/1148396397_RcAkIUdC
and http://www.alternet.org/story/38849/.)
Now the drumbeat of calls urging Gore to run is growing louder in light
of recent events and as voters increasingly resent our involvement in Iraq.
"Gore's early position on Iraq has strongly resonated with the party
base," says Draft Gore spokesperson Andrea Ronhovde. "We're seeing this in
the petition. We believe Gore could raise legions of volunteers and large
amounts of money in very short order."
Moreover, the increased attention from the Oscar nomination for Gore's
"An Inconvenient Truth," a Rolling Stone article urging "Run, Al, Run," and
a growing consensus among pundits that Hillary Clinton is unelectable are
making voters take a second look at the man often called "The Goracle" for
having been right on every issue of moral imperative.
The Draft Gore petition is not just a database of names and addresses,
but also a powerful chronicle of people's stories and direct pleas to Al
Gore. Petitioners include teens and grandmothers, Democrats and
Republicans, mayors and people who never voted but wish to give their first
vote to Gore. A quick sample of comments include:
"As a military member, I signed up shortly after 9/11 because our
country needed me. Mr. Gore, our country now needs you. Please answer her
call."
"We're dying out here sir. We need you. Please, Please run."
"Please, for our grandchildren, for humanity and for the planet! It's
the only one we have."
Draft Gore is a grassroots political action committee promoting a Gore
candidacy in 2008. The PAC is not affiliated with Vice President Gore's
office. >snip

6. You won the popular vote in 00, you can win it again and the election this time Gore!
Come on Gore, save us from getting an unelectable Hillary on the ballot.

I think this time around Gore could almost definitely win the general election. This time around with so many people sick of Bush and how plenty of the top repug candidates are for unpopular things like supporting the war in Iraq he'd probably face a weaker candidate. Plus chances are the antibush tide will carry over to the 08 election a lot more then the proclinton tide carried over to the 2000 election.

7. Wonderful news. Thanks for posting these links.
I can hear the drumbeat even out here in Oregon, far from Washington, DC!

8. Let's hope!
I'm at the point where I feel that Gore is the only one who can hopefully save our planet.
And, if we could (fingers crossed) get a Gore/Clark ticket, we would have maturity in the WH!

Please, please, please!

14. Yes, Lieberman. I can remember how proud I was as a Jew when the Gore-Lieberman ticket...
was announced in August 2000. His wife was Hadassah; how beautiful! Of course, they were observant Conservative Jews and I had my doubts about that. Did he help or hurt the ticket? Who knows?

But now, the patina is off. He is a sniveling, self-serving politician, sometimes a Republican in disguise, supporting Bush, and speaking very conservatively in moments when I want him to be liberal.

He's toast in my book, despite his win in Connecticut.

Thanks for posting.

I sure wish he'd run! And I love Tipper. They are such a neat couple and so honest.

I think Gore/Edwards sounds nice.

16. Not sure about Letterman
According to the latest rumor - it might be tomorrow (Tuesday 13th).

But Al Gore is not listed among this week's guests on the CBS website.

I was just chatting with my father and I was discussing each candidate.. I feel very strongly that while there are great candidates for presidency, there is one who has the best chance to fix the mess that * did over the past years..thanks so much for pointing this out to me... will pass this on.
