Hillary surges, now in dead heat with Edwards in North Carolina....
Edited on Fri Feb-09-07 09:43 AM by SaveElmer
From todays edition of the Raleigh Observer...

Clinton gains on Edwards

New York Sen. Hillary Clinton has nearly caught up with fellow presidential candidate John Edwards among Democrats in the former senator's home state.

Edwards led Clinton 34 percent to 31 percent when Tar Heel Democrats were asked who they preferred in the presidential field, according to a statewide poll by Public Policy Polling of Raleigh. Illinois Sen. Barack Obama was the choice of 18 percent of those polled.

That is a major surge for Clinton. A poll a month ago by Public Policy Polling had Edwards with 29 percent, Clinton at 16 percent and Obama at 15 percent.

The major Clinton gain was among female and African-American voters.

29. It certainly does!
I saw, I think, TIME magazine at the drug store tonight - with the campaign-2008-already cover story. Know what I think it means? I think it's a left-handed acknowledgement of JUST HOW DESPERATE most of America is - to be rid of george bush. I've never befpre seen the anticipation of a change of management this great, OR this soon, in my whole life.

2. Did they speculate as to why the gain among female & African-American voters?
Just wondering what they're attributing it to, if anything, since there was no link provided.

10. "Surge" for Clinton. Interesting choice of words. I'd rather they'd call it an "escalation".

13. I have said it all along and I will say it again.
When a woman, Democratic, Republican, Independent, whatever, goes into the voting booth, away from the husband she will think hard about voting for the woman.

And while they are pulling the lever, pushing the button, or touching the screen they will say, "damn right a woman can do it better than a man".

And when it is announced that Hillary is the next President, they will say to their husbands, "How could anyone have voted for that evil woman".

15. We're Fucked Folks
Without Gore, we're going to either end up with Hillary running the show, and a sort of dynasty in the WH. Bush-Clinton-Bush-Clinton.

Either that, or we'll get John McCain and another repub administration, along with perhaps more conservative Supremes.

Regardless, this country is going to go into the crapper during the next decade. I don't see anyone who really gives a damn besides Gore, and he cares so much, that he's not willing to sully himself by running, or being involved in political BS.

18. Right...but...
The way the post was written we were fucked cause we would have a Bush-Clinton-Bush-Clinton "dynasty"...

I would argue the Bush-Bush portion of that clearly was/is a disaster...the first Clinton clearly was not...and if there is a second Clinton...I have every confidence that it would not be either!!!

I don't think it is particularly Democratic to limit the voters choice based on their last name...

24. Honest question, no snark:
Do you really believe polls like this, in early 2007, are an accurate measure or predictor of anything?

31. I have Never claimed they were a predictor...
They are valuable as they tell us where things are now, and they tell us trends..

They are valuable to the candidates for fundraising and getting support...and they are valuable for those behind who may wish to reorient their strategy...

So yes, I think they are relevent...

26. I've always heard Edwards wasn't very popular in NC.
Edited on Fri Feb-09-07 10:49 PM by Clarkie1
Can't say I'm surprised. He couldn't win his own state in the the general election, either.

Edit: As I've said before, I do not believe Edwards will be a "first tier" candidate by the time of the Iowa caucus.

27. SaveElmer, you're a pip. Don't ever change!
You are like the little engine that could in my view, wading into a torrent sea of Hillary bashing and bravely posting perky little newslettes about your candidate, oblivious to the snarls of haters surrounding you. Battle on, SaveElmer, battle on!
