Robert Gates is banging the Iran War drum
Robert Gates has Tehran on his mind:

Serial numbers and markings on explosives used in Iraq provide "pretty good" evidence that Iran is providing either weapons or technology for militants there, Defense Secretary Robert Gates asserted Friday.

Offering some of the first public details of evidence the military has collected, Gates said, "I think there's some serial numbers, there may be some markings on some of the projectile fragments that we found," that point to Iran.

There's a smoking gun for you.

Do you want to wait until we think there are serial numbers and markings in downtown Manhattan? Do you want to take that risk!?

He also says that we've "picked up" some Iranians in raids in Iraq. What more do you need to hear, folks? How can the world community stand still for Iran's unspeakable business — interfering with the sovereign state of Iraq?

1. "....either weapons or technology..." Doesn't sound very sure about what's
going on.

2. This is supposed to be the top guy
and the best he can come up with is that he thinks there are some seriel numbers and markings. WTF is the matter with these neocon assholes? This is just as stupid as colon powell holding up a vial of corn starch and showing pictures of trailers as "evidence" of Iraqs WMD program.

If the general population buys into this bullshit again I'm giving up on this country once and for all.

3. Using Gates' logic....

I'm sure the Irish Liberation National Army has left behind bullet fragments
and other equipment--on many occasions--when they've committed violence in the world.

So when do we begin bombing the entire country of Ireland and storming Belfast?

4. I'm curious.
How is it we know what these serial numbers reference? Do we have lists of Iranian armaments serial numbers? How old are those lists? No too many years ago Iran was supplying arms to anti-Saddam Iraqis. Might these serial numbers be from then?

Does he even know what he's talking about?

Doesn't "I think there's some serial numbers, there may be some markings on some of the projectile fragments that we found," sound just a little squishy?

5. Same here!
What kind of armaments? Were they made in Iran or sold to them? By whom?

It's not getting much play for it's importance, but yesterday this whole thing went to a new level. It's making the rounds in print now so by next week...well, let's just say we're going to see Chris Matthews freaking out 'Live!' A ruling council member made the statement that they would retaliate if attacked. And not just by firing missiles back into Iraq. Yes, Bush is bringing it to a point of 'fighting them here at home.'

If it had come from Ahmenijidad, that would be one thing. Coming from the ruling council is serious. Very serious.

7. If our intelligence experts...
... could tell that a metal shed with a truck parked next to it was a WMD lab, I'm sure they know the difference between Arabic numerals and Persian ones. :)

6. They want to leave the next Democratic president with a war.
It appears that Bush's plan is to attack Iran and start a regional war which would last well in the next presidential term if not longer. We need to act now. Is anyone organizing a protest?

8. "I think there's some serial numbers...
They're in the area around Tikrit and Baghdad and east, west, south and north somewhat."

So... the evidence is "pretty good," eh? What an impressive statement! Wes Clark was right when he said Gates wouldn't be able to stand up to Dick Cheney and would end up gettin' rolled over.
