Richardson 28
Hillary 22
Obama 17
Edwards 10

This was over a month ago, so his lead may have increased since then...

Hillary, Obama and Edwards should not ignore him...he could surprise!

2. Richardson can carry even conservative San Juan County by double digits.
I'd be very surprised if he weren't leading in NM. Unfortunately, NM plays a pretty small part in the nomination process. :shrugs:

4. He was just re-elected by the largest margin in NM history
He is incredibly experienced (Governor, US Ambassador to UN, Sec of Energy, Congressman). He loves diplomacy, recently going over to Sudan to broker a ceasefire because Bush Inc wouldn't do it in a million years. He supports deauthorizing, defunding and getting out of Iraq. He recently authorized changing NM to an all paper-ballot system. He recently announced his vision for US foreign policy:

1. Repairing international alliances by working with traditional allies and reengaging them in our foreign policy;
2. Renew the U.S. commitment to international law and treaties, including abiding by the Geneva Convention, shutting down Guantanamo, rejecting torture as a policy device;
3. A "wholesale assault" to reduce global warming, including going beyond the Kyoto protocols in establishing national benchmarks for enivronmental protection;
4. Engage our enemies by having direct talks with North Korea, Iran, and Syria;
5. Refocus on the "real international threats" including nuclear proliferation and the threat of nuclear terrorism;
6. Engage Latin America on a range of issues from immigration reform to economic, energy, and environmental cooperation;
7. Fight international poverty

There is a lot to like about him. It is no surprise that the state that knows him best would want to have him be President.

6. What's the difference between
28-22 and 34-31 (with regards to polling)

I like Richardson, but he will have to build his recognition across the wide range of state primaries and caucuses, so at this point he's not in as good of shape as Edwards.

He does create a problem for Clark though, especially if Clark was going to try a repeat of his Southwestern strategy again this cycle (of course, who knows what the primary lineup will eventually look like).

11. I kind of like Richardson myself.
Of all the Democratic hopefuls, I think he would do best in Alaska. Of course, we've only got three (I think) measly little electoral votes, so who cares?
