4th Graders Advice For The President (April 2003):
Edited on Fri Feb-09-07 02:11 PM by Dinger
I found this buried in my files. I swear my students have no idea where I stand on things, and I really question where they got their ideas from. The area here is very repuglican. This was a journal, where the ONLY prompt was to give advice to the president. Anyway, here are their comments, verbatim:

Wisconsin Fourth Graders’ Advice For The President
•If I could give the President a piece of advice, it would be to quit you’re job for good. Don’t you think the war is dumb, sending all our young men over there? Shame knows your name. Where’s Osama ? That’s just really dumb. They all have a life to live. You’re out of your head and don’t have brains. I wish Al Gore was President. We all stand united, and smart. You stand alone and unsmart.
• I would ask the President if he would fight. I don’t like to give advice though. The President can come up with his own advice.
•The piece of advice I would give the President would be to be a good President, and do your job. If I was President, the thing I would do is to make people happy. That’s what I would do. The biggest piece of advice I would give him is to stop the war. That’s the number one thing people want is to stop the war.
• I would tell him that we have our lives to live too. I would tell him what he should do for a living. Why? Because he doesn’t know what it feels like. He shouldn’t be President because he is doing something stupid. I would tell him to let Al Gore be President. I would tell him about the poor people. I would tell him what we do for a living. I would tell him what I’D do if I were President.
• I would tell the President to give money to the poor. There are a lot of people who don’t have money. Many don’t even have houses. He should give them to the homeless so they have houses. Then they won’t have to live in alleys. Their children won’t be in alleys either. They would have a good life then, instead of being in gangs. People should have better lives than that.
• If I had to give the President of the United States advice, I would say please stop this war. If we do that to them, they can do that to us, like crash into one of
their important buildings. Do you think they would feel bad like we did when they did that to us? That would be payback for them. I hope we don’t get the poison on us if we lose the war. We need to know more about what going on in our lives. Why do you want to go to war? Don’t make people die trying to get Saddam Hussein. Just get him and make him a better person. That’s what I would say to the President.
• I would talk to the President about the way we treat each other. I would ask the reason we have to be at war. I would give advice about the way we are doing the war. I would also give advice about the way he does his job. I would give advice about having more field trips. That would be just about all the advice I would give him.
• If I was President, I would make better roads. I would make better schools. I would get rid of drugs and people selling them in alleys. I would plant more trees. I would make toys for people to learn from. I would catch all of the bad people. I would find teachers like Mrs. ______________.
• I would say for the kids to read one hour a day. In books, we can learn more about other people. In books, we can learn about good football teams like the Packers, more about computers, more about building things, more about animals, more about a lot of things.
•If I was President, I would fix the roads. I would be the very best President. Anybody could write me and tell me what needs to be fixed. I will try to fix anything. I would try to make everything right for people. You could talk to me when I’m not busy. I would make the U.S. cleaner. I would try to help people. I hope I could be a good president.

1. You just know a country is screwed when 4th graders are ten times
smarter than the pseudo-president. Chucklenuts wouldn't be able to understand half the words in their answers.

Congrats on having smart, thoughtful, kind, students. Looks like you are doing an excellent job. Thank you.

2. Out of the mouths of babes....
I imagine they've heard a lot of that from their parents, but you have to give them credit for seeing through the haze and coming up with common sense answers.

That was interesting to read. I've wondered how the U.S. was going to survive in the future when we have such corruption with the present administration. Maybe the youth will straighten it out. God knows we haven't been able to.
