'Air Pelosi': Payback for 5-Day Week?
http://www.usnews.com/usnews/news/articles/070209/9pelosi.htm

One of the lesser-known aspects of the "Air Pelosi" controversy is the degree to which the fuss is payback for the House speaker's decision to hold legislators to a five-day workweek instead of the three- or four-day schedule adopted by the Republicans in the past.

Nancy Pelosi has been struggling to explain her need for a big Air Force jet to fly nonstop to her home district in San Francisco. She says she is only following the policy of her predecessor, Republican Dennis Hastert of Illinois, who flew home regularly on government aircraft for security reasons. Pelosi says she needs a bigger government jet than Hastert did because she has a lot farther to go, and, besides, the security requirement was imposed by the House sergeant at arms. Otherwise, she says, she'd fly commercial.

(snip)

White House Press Secretary Tony Snow has sided with Pelosi. But GOP insiders say the issue has a lot to do with Pelosi's work-week requirements, which many legislators consider a PR stunt that imposes a real burden on them getting home to be with their families and constituents.

(end snips)

This shows the essential Repugnant party. All they know is payback, hate, and revenge. Most of them have held grudges for 40 or more years. God is watching, Repugs, and she is not amused.

12. Does that mean that if Cheney dies or resigns, that Pelosi...
that Pelosi will be the one who has to stick her hand up Bush's ass and talk like a ventriloquist?

2. The Only Way to Handle This Is Ignore the GOP
When they get tired of being ignored for their childish whining, perhaps they will be interested in adult activities, like serving the nation.

6. No. Stick it to them. This is the kind of stupid spin that the stupid press
corps picks up on and destroys people with. (Remember Al Gore inventing the internet, wearing brown suits because a consultant told him to, living like a little rich brat in a fancy Washington hotel...blah blah blah. It all took a toll. He STILL won, but it took a toll.)

4. "Struggling to explain her need?"...Say WHAT?
Nancy Pelosi didn't start this with some big fat demand for a big fat plane!!!
The House Sergeant at Arms originated this thing...as a security measure.
WHY does USNEWS phrase it as if she demanded something out of line and is now squirming around for a rationale.
And how can we hope for good government when we can't even get mediocre news coverage coverage!!!???

7. Payback? Nah--they would have made an issue out of it anyway
Edited on Sun Feb-11-07 01:01 PM by rocknation
because it was an opportunity to make her look bad.

And what "struggling to explain" did Pelosi do? The explanation was simple--she had said that if she couldn't be flown to San Francisco from DC nonstop, she would continue to fly commercially. The only "struggling" I see going on is being done by a national media who can't explain why they didn't bother to get HER side of the story first!

On edit: I've turned this into a letter to the editor.

10. Didn't this filter down from the Pentagon?
I believe it was leaked to the Washington Times by the Pentagon and sat virtually unnoticed for four days or so until it was picked up by wingnut bloggers and then coapted by the whiny sock puppet Congressional GOP.

11. Rocknation speaks for me. This is SOP for the GOP
Business as usual. If this is the best smear they can come up with, they're worse off than I thought.

13. SOP from the WH, get the GOP to start up the rhetoric, let it brew for a while, then deny
that it is an issue. They did it to Kerry and his war record, they are doing the same to Pelosi. They want to appear to take the higher ground when they started it in the first place through their stooges. And why hasn't Hastert issued a statement on this?

14. As Tony Snow put it; "it's silly" and repugs, welcome back to a 5 day work week...
Now, give Pelosi whatever she wants whenever she requests it, she'll worry about progress being made...!
