Things that just aren't true

1) We live in a time of war. World War 2 was a war. People rationed, donated, sent all available manpower off to a fight that would determine the course of history for the industrialized world. Vietnam was a war, with a draft and up to 500,000 troops in theater a political establishment that had to sacrifice domestic priorities to sustain the fight. Sacrifice for Iraq means go shopping and slap a yellow ribbon magnet on your car. Even those who oppose the occupation of Iraq, are mostly arguing about what policy we need to sustain our global economic interests.

2) This coming election is the most important in our lifetimes. It provides us with a unique opportunity, a turning point in history, when more than ever, we can change the course of this great nation and live up to our ideals. They say that every four years. This election is no different. If the Democrats whiff it again, there'll be a new one in '12.

3) All Republicans are evil. One should always, completely, and in no uncertain terms utterly avoid absolutist thinking. It kills true dialog. The real number is 90%, tops.

4) If the party nominates the wrong candidate... (Hillary) I will stay home on election day. No you won't. You won't like it. But when it comes down to a 49-49 race and it's a Democrat you have a few problems with versus a con artist pretending to be a moderate with his head up Jerry Falwell's ass, you'll do the right thing.

5) "30 Rock" is must-see TV. There's been no must-see TV since the Bob Newhart Show.

Anyone care to add to the list?

3. Heros is must-see TV
You bet your ass it is. And I refuse to watch Bob Newhart because of bad drunk stories from "Hi Bob" in my youth.

4. "Hillary Clinton, Evan Bayh, or [Insert you favorite so-called DINO here]
are no better than Republicans."

We don't have to agree on everything to know that all the elected officials who are so often called DINO's on this board still vote with Dems most all of the time.

Another one:

"The majority views on this board are an accurate reflection of the country's views." We are wildly liberal on this board and far out of the mainstream on many issues. A simple poll here of those who support gay marriage would show you that.

5. Anna Nicole Smith is like Marilyn Monroe
Please! :eyes:

Some of them WILL stay home, there are people here (on DU) who aren't really Democrats and will vote for a lamp post to "object" to the "system" and candidates who aren't ultra liberal pure.

8. Mister Rogers was a tatooed former Marine with 28 confirmed kills
That's why he wore the sweater.

My mum sent me that one.

13. I don't know about the tatoos
Or the "confirmed kills", but Fred Rogers was a Marine in WWII with combat experience on Iwo Jima. So that much at least was true.

14. NO it's not. You're repeating an urban legend.
Wiki or Snopes for Fred Rogers. You'll see he never served in the military. Not a day.

18. Yep, I think the whole thing meets the criteria of the thread
My mom sent me that one. It had all kinds of stuff in there about Lee Marvin and Capt. Kangaroo. The only part that was true about them was that they served. :-)

Mr. Rogers did not serve in the military, although he served in many other ways!

21. What do you find most evil about them? Their broad sweeping generalizations...?
...or their close minded approach to politics that makes them villefy everyone who opposes them? You're right that that's a pathetic and ultimately cowardly way to participate in a democracy. Mega-dittoes to you, sir!
