Romney Has One Wife, Says His Wife
"The biggest difference between Mitt Romney and the other candidates," she said, is that Mitt has "only had one wife."

The Politico's Jonathan Martin has the scoop behind Ann Romney's creative description of her husband's family values.

Does that mean that, to Romney's campaign, the marriages of Sen. John McCain (2) and ex-NYC mayor Rudy Giuliani (3) are fair game?

And here's another weird observation: Not a single first-or-second tier Democratic candidate has been divorced.

And I thought it was going to be about Mormons.

10. I think it's a clever strategy, though it could backfire.
She (and probably he) are trying to head off the whole "They have no family values because they believe in polygamy." By her bringing up that he's never been divorced, she creates an image of family values for them, and also makes it riskier for the other Repub candidates to bring up "family values" or polygamy. She's threatening them, in a way, reminding them that wisecracks about marriage will lead to uncomfortable questions about their own marriages.

Yeah, that's probably overly obvious. I'm in an overly-obvious mood today, though. :)

LOL So did I. But you know, this little stunt may backfire.. Not only does it allow the chance to bring up Morman polygamy (which drives the RW fundies nuts), but it also allows Dems to underscore WHO has led the life of "family values"

To whomever gave me the donation heart... Thanks so much! I'm very touched. :loveya:

3. Family Values - exactly
One of my big issues with the "sanctity of marriage" discussion has always been that those spouting the nonsense have no problem with allowing divorce. McCain and Rudy are psoter children for that.

I think the fact the Democrats are not divorced is something that needs to be stressed. Of course, that doesn't mean that they won't be by the time this campaign is over. ;)

7. When Romney's wife speaks, you never know what will come out
Boston area people might only understand this but when Romney ran for the Senate his wife was quoted as calling "West Roxbury the good part of Roxbury". Now anyone who lives in Boston knows that West Roxbury and Roxbury are two distinct neighborhoods that are not, I believe, connected area-wise at all. West Roxbury is not the west part of Roxbury and Roxbury is not east part of West Roxbury. Maybe, many many years ago that was true, but it ain't now. I think other neighborhoods are between the two. And I lived in West Roxbury and I sometimes couldn't figure out where Boston neighborhoods end and where they begin. So one outside the Boston area might ask "what's the big deal". Well, one neigborhood is hugely minority and the other hugely white. Can you quess which one is the "good" neigborhood from her quote? Ding! Ding! Ding! We have a winner! She was kept quite for the Governor's race but she will have to speak if he runs for President and it will be fun.

11. Well that's sooooo relevant
How does the number of marriage affect how you do your job? If that's all they got they are in trouble.

14. How dirty are these Republicans going to get?
Hell, even before one of them gets the nomination. McCain has got the Swift Boat guys who he supposed thought were dishonest, Romney's got his wife attacking the others for having had more then one week, and Giuliani is Giuliani.

They are kicking up the slime machine months and months before they even get to the general election.

The GOP is self destructing in a struggle to gain back power...
