Obama refuses to appear on FOX News, so....
Rupert Murdoch uses fellow Australian and lapdog John Howard to attack Obama. Expect to see more political attacks from other world leaders that Murdoch owns.

1. Every other Dem candidate should do the same.
Every Dem politician should do the same.

Fox Noise is nothing but the propaganda arm of the GOP - and the Dems should start saying so. LOUDLY.

4. Exactly..
... it is time to stop playing nice with Fox. Whether you appear on their show or not, they are going to trash you.

5. It really only would work if they all did it.
As it is, now Obama's missing a demographic. Believe it or not, many Democrats watch Faux News. And, if you live in the South or mid-West, it's on in every barber shop, auto repair shop, restaurant, etc. Swing voters are forced to view it if they're waiting somewhere.

14. Yep. In a free country, they can push their propaganda if they must.
But there is no reason to enable them by bringing some excitement (as in conflict) to their panting lap dogs.

Without the "evil" Left, FAUX fans will tune out due to boredom.

Fine by me, and the sooner, the better.

2. So I was right--the job WAS outsourced!
Edited on Mon Feb-12-07 10:09 PM by rocknation
Oh, but wouldn't it be perfect payback if Howard ends up outsourcing HIMSELF!

Oh, and Barack, you don't go within fifty miles of Fox until they issue a retraction AND an apology for not verifying the madrassah story!

3. Not only should all dems boycott Fox......
Edited on Mon Feb-12-07 10:13 PM by hwmnbn
At every opportunity they should remind the public that Fox has been the propaganda arm of the RNC. Give examples if necessary.

The folks who watch Fox will not vote democratic anyway so dems will lose nothing. This will marginalize the network and leave them wallowing in their hateful rhetoric. That's what they do anyway, let them do it alone.

on edit:

Welcome to DU!!

6. That's not true.
Many Democrats and swing voters watch Faux News. Granted, some are forced to because it's on in every gym, shop and restaurant, but people who WOULD vote for the Dem candidate DO watch it.

I wish I had the link that showed the demographic breakdown for you, but I don't. Maybe someone who sees this thread can remember where it was and post it for you.

9. If people believed anything Fox said about a Democratic candidate
Edited on Mon Feb-12-07 10:44 PM by A Simple Game
then they probably wouldn't vote for the Democrat.

The saying that there is no bad publicity isn't true in the case of Fox. You're better off if they don't mention you if you are a Democrat.

On edit; Of course I pretty much feel that way about all of the news channels.

Granted that Howard sounded like he was doing a Dick Cheney impersonation...

10. Why would he do that?
This only HELPS Obama - it makes him a player on the international stage.

Howard is capable of being a jerk without any outside help.

Edited on Mon Feb-12-07 11:12 PM by countmyvote4real
While Faux Noise has some sizable viewers and ratings numbers, they are comprised of morons and ideologues that could never begin to understand his message. There is a brain barrier among these sorts.

19. Thanks AK, I knew about that one but had forgotten.
Still,

"Sources close to Obama acknowledged that they're not thrilled to play ball with Fox journalists, but they stopped short of saying they are freezing the network out."

I think it is good he keep his options open. Sometimes you just have to go into the lion's den and have at them...builds character.

16. Obama countered Howard's comment with a "Class A" zinger. I'll bet
they're playing that all over "down under".

17. Obama is genius by not allowing FOXnews to even get within 10 feet of him, also
Barrack handled Howard's comments sharp, timely and effectively. This dude seems to have what it takes to become a first class leader!

20. I don't think Obama needs FAUX as much as they need him.
Funny thing about FAUX news, they have done jack squat to even appear to be impartial with Obama and now they are crying because he's "not playing nice" with them. Really illustrates a lot of what is WRONG with politics and how politics is covered by the press today--doesn't it?

Not to put too fine of a point on this, but access really IS the driving thing in the media right now, and this is is a further illustration of the root of the whole Plame thing. The big race is NOT to cover "news" it is to curry favor and access. The big "scoops" are dependent on getting those juicy tidbits and FAUX is just starting to realize how bad they screwed up when they went after Obama before he even announced.

Look for Howard to continue to snipe at Obama and look for this all to be spun by FAUX as illustrative of Obama's lack of international savvy. They are terrified at the idea that Obama might continue to shut them out and that he might be the Dem nominee. They will do ALL they can to make sure the nominee os someone they have access to.

Regards!

Laura
