Gore fans: Check this out -- There is hope!
Edited on Tue Feb-13-07 12:32 PM by garybeck

Last Friday 2/9, Keith Olbermann did a segment on Hillary and Obama's recent announcements. Mysteriously, half of the segment is spent on discussing the possibility of AL GORE running and what affect that would have on the Democratic Primary.

Guest A.B. Stoddard from "The Hill" goes through a rather lengthy discussion about discontented Democrats who are reluctantly backing Hillary because they "have no choice" and how Gore could attract a lot of Democrats. In conclusion she says:

"the supporters and advisers of Al Gore who are getting together in Boston to discuss a Draft Gore movement have better things to do with their time and if there was no interest from Gore in running again, they wouldn't be meeting."

then the kicker, Keith tells a story about how a year ago Gore was on his TV show and off camera, Gore seemed to indicate he would run if there was a public demand for it. When Keith asked if the cameras were still rolling, the look on Gore's face was "indescribable, as if I had caught him at something..."

Watch the intriguing 3-minute video:
http://solarbus.org/blog

Then after you watch the video, everyone PLEASE go to http://DraftGore.com and sign the petition. Spread it around! Let's build up some groundswell and let Al know, HE'S OUR CHOICE!

(no, I'm not affiliated with DraftGore.com... I just want Al to run!)

it will only happen if there is a demand for it. I say, let's show there's serious demand and let Al take it from there.

I would also add, his concern about the environment is not new, so it's not an either/or thing. He wrote a book about the environment while he was VP and he's been studying global warming since he was in college. In fact one could say it's one of the reasons he got into politics in the first place.

Al Gore's words from his great book, An Inconvenient Truth/
The Planetary Emergency of Global Warming And What We Can Do About It:

Page 113:

"Since I left the White House in 2001, I have also learned that there are many forms of public service other than running for office and serving as an elected official. I've always known this, of course, but I've come to personally appreciate the satisfaction that can be found as a private citizen in trying to make our democracy work better."

But then, only a political operative not caring about what he thinks or wants would say what you just did.

Only shows you have nothing to say in response to his own words.

These are his words as well from the LIFE insert, Bergen Record, June 2006:

" I miss the ability to influence events, but I do not miss politics.,"

You think he's lying? Being coy? Sneaky? Deceptive? Just playing some mind game with everybody? I don't. Those words tell me he is doing what he stated in those words, influening events without having to be involved in politics, and from what I see with his endeavors such as the Climate Project which he says he is taking global, the Alliance for Climate Protection, Generation Investment Management, and CURRENT TV, as well as his other endeavors such as these Live Earth concerts coming up that will reach millions and other possibilities he now has in the FREE world regarding grassroots efforts, working with business to seek real changes from the ground up, and influening policy around the world (as in being a global ambassador to broker beyond Kyoto,) he is doing just that very well. He also stated in a speech to the NY Botanical Gardens last September (know what the speech was even about?) that politics is his "former" occupation. If you want that quote I can get that too...So again, why do you continue to harass him? It has to be for YOU, because it certainly isn't for him.

57. He misses the ability to influence events
So if he "changes his mind" and decides to enter the race for the Dem nomination, it will be for that reason. Because he wants to influence events and help shape the future for America and the world.

He does not miss politics so if he runs again it will not be just for the fun of running.

Has anyone here said that Al Gore is lying??? (don't answer - it's a rhetorical question)

Wow, my words must really carry weight if the (unofficial) algore08 site has all its minions gunning for me now. Again, you can choose to dissect his own words any way you wish, but they stand as he stated them. And SHOULD he "change his mind" and suddenly think this system is not toxic or tomfoolery, it won't be because your group changed his mind, so I think your delusions of grandeur of taking credit for that are truly farfetched. And SHOULD he also change his mind, I will support him as best I can as I always have while continuing to communicate with him my concerns about it, so you can stop posting that lie about me in your responses as well and consider yourself on my ignore list now. I don't have time for the diversionary tactics of political operatives.

If Yes - that makes Gore the rightful winner, elected by 51 million citizens - and those are just the ones they counted! Proof of his mainstream appeal.

If No - then by agreeing with the 5 most Conservative judges on the US Supreme Court - you are in a very small minority here on Democratic Underground.

It certainly does not prove that he has ruled out the possibility of seeking the nomination for 2008.

Right now he is keeping his options open, seeing how the situation develops in the coming months.

If "We, the people" find ways to show our support for Al Gore, this will make it more likely that he might "change his mind" and enter the race at some point in the fall.

the most I've read is that he "has no plans" or "doesn't think it's likely" or the latest is he "can't forsee any circumstances that would cause" him to run.

that's not the same thing as "keeps insisting." that would be more like "I'm not running folks, so please stop asking me." i've never heard that.

33. About convinced
I'm just about convinced that Al will not run, but I still have hope. Just imagine: if he were (re-)elected President, it would instantly dispel the miasma that hangs over the US in international relations. He is respected throughout the world.

35. I went through a draft movement in 04.
I would have to think about it before I get involved again though he would be a strong candidate with integrity.

36. This is the time ...
I think that there have been very few times in our history where we have needed a real visionary to step up and take control of this show as we do now.
I mean, we are NEEDING a FDR quality leader here; and I dont see that in the "CANDIDATES" we have been handed thus far.
People, the globe, are waiting to follow such a leader.
And isnt it strange that here we sit a FULL YEAR ahead of the first primary and already the field is supposedly set?
I think not.
We wont know where the field actualy lies until the summer; as has always been the case.

47. I know the feeling. You have my condolences

I also say not again, especially now that it is obvious his focus now is on what he has always wanted it to be on, and it is important for this planet now that it be there. If he ever should wish to enter this system again, he could do it very well on his own.

37. Another "Big Hint" he's running is the Grammy Awards...
Folks might not know that Tipper Gore got TRASHED by the Music Industry back in the 80's when she started a campaign to get "warning labels" put on records, tapes that had sexual and other language that didn't seem appropriate for kids.

Gore and Tipper have been trashed for that ever since...including by DU'ers who remember. That Gore was asked to present an award means the Music Industry has forgiven him...meaning that RW can't attack him when the very industry Tipper wanted to be forced to have warning labels on their music has EMBRACED HIM.

It's another step for Gore...building a Coalition that the RW will have a hard time beating down.

I think he will run...but he's going to wait until the very last...to see if he can build enough momentum that what he wears and what he looks like won't really matter and the RW Media can't go at him about it.

38. I really believe the Democratic nomination and the Presidency
are his if he runs. All other competitors are second tier as soon as he announces his candidacy.
