MFSO McCaskill Protest in Springfield MO attracting support
Received today in email from Peace Network of the Ozarks, regarding Claire McCaskill reception:
(We've got to let Claire McCaskill know that we don't accept her position on Iraq)

To All PNO Members & Friends… please note the following carefully.

The History:
Through the election campaign several PNO members worked very hard as
individuals to elect Senator McCaskill and other Democrats in high
hopes the elected candidates would work positively to curtail and end
the Iraq War, and prevent expanded War. PNO members were effective in
changing many votes, and getting many additional votes out for the
candidates. Nothing would have been worse than Missouri retaining
Senator Talent who was simply a “yes man” for the Bush Administration.
In recent weeks we have detected that McCaskill has not been working
aggressively enough to support the effort for peace, consequently our
initial thought was to meet with McCaskill at her reception to speak
with her directly, and other local Democratic leaders to urge upward
pressures in a positive manner if possible. In recognition of the PNO
campaign efforts the Democratic PNO liaison very kindly sent PNO an
invitation to the reception that we accepted, and we issued the notice
to PNO members to attend the reception if they could. Negative events,
however, have occurred to cause a change in planning.

The Negative Event, Discovered Yesterday:
A few days ago, MFSO, Military Families, people who have suffered the
Iraq War more than anyone, had an appointment to meet with Senator
McCaskill in her Capital office. First hand reports from Military
Families have informed us they were treated quite badly in the meeting
by McCaskill aides, and Senator McCaskill did not even attend the
appointment. As a result Military Families have become so disappointed
in the lack of action by the Senator they, and other groups they are
calling, will be protesting at the McCaskill reception in Springfield
on Feb. 22.

Action of the PNO Coordinating Committee Meeting Last Night:
It was unanimously agreed by the coordinating committee that PNO cannot
in good conscience attend the reception on the inside at the meeting
place to enjoy food and festivities and balloons and ballyhoo while
Military Families and other groups are protesting on the outside. Our
feeling is to stand in strong solidarity with our friends in Peace.
Consequently we are rescinding our previous recommendation for members
to attend the reception. We strongly believe it waters down and
defeats the purpose of a united peace effort to attend the reception.
We should not attend the McCaskill reception.

PNO New Action:
All members that can get there… please make strong efforts to attend the
combined protest with Military Families and the other groups on the
curbside at the McCaskill reception. We will bring signs, or you may
feel free to bring your own. We will be protesting with our usual
courtesy and respect for the public, and waving our signs at a Senator
that needs a stronger understanding from people who elected her.
Detail as follows.

Protest Time/Date: Feb. 22, Thursday, 5:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.
Location: Teamsters Hall
Address: 1850 E. Division
Springfield, MO

This is an important event. Please make best effort to attend.

2. I'd need a clear reason to object to Sen. McCaskill after one month of
service.

The "bad treatment" by aides is hearsay.

What's their beef?

3. McCaskill is lucky to be where she is.

After losing to Matt Blunt in 2004, she barely gained her victory and only because Jim Talent was too closely associated with President Bush. If she wants to satisfy those who brought her to the dance, she'll listen.

I've met Claire several times (mostly in 2004), and thoroughly enjoy her!! But she has to realize we put her in office for a reason, and she has an obligation

4. I believe she'll come around, but you'll have to get her attention--
not the aides.
