Rudy Giuliani leads Republican race
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main.jhtml?xml=/news/2007/02/16/wgiu16.xml

Rudy Giuliani, the former New York mayor, has become the clear frontrunner for the Republican presidential nomination despite a personal life that his own staff once conceded opened him up to accusations of "weirdness".

A USA Today/Gallup poll gave Mr Giuliani a 16-point lead over his rival Senator John McCain and showed him trailing Hillary Clinton, the leading Democrat, by just a single percentage point.

But the extent of his task to persuade Americans he can lead them was underlined this week when a remarkable 450-page "vulnerability study", compiled by aides in 1993, emerged. His current advisers fear that his colourful past and his liberal social positions could scupper his candidacy.

In an interview with CNN's Larry King Live on Wednesday, Mr Giuliani conceded that there was lots of material with which the press and opponents could attack him. "The way I deal with that is, hey, I'm a human being," he said.

1. Good, let him win the nomination
We can stain him so badly with his past that we can easily suppress turn out. This should be a very doable election for Dems.

The only thing that could neutralize a Giuliani candidacy's advantage for the Dems would be to nominate Hillary, who would spur high turn out among wing nuts and sexists intent on keeping her out of office.

I hold frankly that Obama is our most electable candidate.

13. HRC has it practically locked up
the nomination that is. And I look forward to
witnessing Bill dancing with Madam President at the
inauguration ball.

2. Despite incestuous undercurrents, the RW Christians love Giuliani.
Leave it to the repukes to choose the most morally bankrupt person to run for president.

alienate and demoralize the religious right (where the Republicans' bread is buttered), but will cut the throat of the Republican chance to win the presidential election. These folks will stay home come election day.

Will that bone be sufficient for the dogs? It is
doubtful.

15. A number of them will vote for him just because he's a Repug.
The GOP will have some serious problems in 2008. There is no single candidate that they can happily rally to.

3. It could be that none of the three leading GOP candidates will get the
nomination.

They all three have Achilles heels running from their ankles up the length of their legs and on both sides of their torsos, and around their necks and heads as well.

I'm just not seeing Rudy Giuliani as the GOP nominee.

4. And that vulnerability study preceeded his coverup of post 9/11 toxic air in lower Manhattan
Edited on Fri Feb-16-07 07:47 AM by Divernan
Giuliani collaborated with Bush & his chief White House (anti) environmental advisor, Connaughton, when the White House re-wrote EPA's test results of air quality at ground zero and surrounding southern Manhattan. They did this to get Wall Street up and running ASAP, by lying to tens of thousands of New Yorkers, as well as volunteer rescue workers from around the country, telling them the air was safe to breathe. It wasn't. Consequently tens of thousands of men, women and children who lived and/or worked in that area breathed in these lethal contaminants for months and years. Thousands of them have filed suits on this matter, and they are beginning to die after years of suffering.

The courts have already cleared the way for Christie Whitman to be added to the list of defendants in civil cases. This also clears the way for discovery of documents which I fully expect will implicate Giuliani and Connaughton and lead to them being joined as additional defendants in civil suits. This situation will gather momentum over the coming years, as more and more become incapacitated and die. Asbestosis/mesothelioma can take 20 or 30 years to become symptomatic. And asbestos was only one of dozens of lethal elements in the air. I have no idea what party leaders in the GOP will control choice of the GOP candidate (Bush/Cheney have displayed no concern for who will succeed them), but the GOP will be foolish to allow Rudy to be the candidate - that is unless they conclude that the Bush fiasco is better left to the Dems to try to clean up, and the GOP decides to just put up a token/sacrificial candidate.

6. Tell me about it !
I live in the shadow of where the WTC stood...
and I got no love for Rudy. One thing's for sure,
he was not the hero of 911 that the republican press
makes him out to be. Awful awful man.

10. Giuliani at least had the fore sight to plan for a terrorist attack on the World Trade Center....
He built that command center in 1998 in World Trade Center 7 to better manage a terrorist attack... He spent 20 million dollars to add...
* Bullet- and bomb-resistant windows
* An independent, secure air and water supply
* The ability to withstand winds of 200 mph

See... he thinks ahead...

Unfortunately, the building he placed his command center in was struck by an invisible airplane and demolished on the very day that it would be needed but he at least was trying... What did Bush do? He sat in that classroom doing nothing... Guilani is a great choice for the Republican ticket and a better choice for President... A Guiliani administration means the 9/11 Truth movement will never die...

11. There are so many skeletons in that closet...
...all making noise. I doubt Rudy can keep that closet door closed all through this brutally long campaign. IMO he's toast.
