4. Thanks.
But I unfortunately the media will pick the candidate for most people.

2. The media will be the ones who decide who win the primaries and leave
us with a narrow choice. That is unless our candidate is so powerful and well loved and needed and wanted that we will drown out the media and push our candidate to the top.

Al Gore anyone?

5. The media and the powers in the party
already succeeded in depriving me of my top two choices - Kerry and Feingold, as well as a possible third - Bayh.

Not to mention that my first choice would be the incumbent President without the media preference for Bush in 2004.

6. The media tells me I'm choosing Hillary, but I'm not and I don't
personally know anyone who is. Where do they get their numbers??

7. I doubt it's DUers we need to worry about
as far as the media making the choice. It's those who aren't very informed on the political front and that is a huge majority of the people.

Just my .0125

...Bill Richardson. Right. :eyes:

I believe if the frontrunner were Kucinich or someone thought to be more to the left of Clinton no one here would think for a moment the media had anything to do with it.

9. While I make my own choice
(Right now- Edwards or Dodd) the media hypes "persoanlities", "good story lines" to stir up fights or drama to get the ratings to make their corporate bosses happy. Unfortunately usually they have succeeded in narrowing the field so much by the Wisconsin primary, that my choice is already gone.

is being manipulated by the media - implicit in such attitudes is that I'm too stupid to be able to figure out things for myself, while the person raising the issue is immune from such manipulation and can see through bullshit that I'm blinded by.

Voters kicked out the Republican majority last year - were THEY manipulated by the media? Voters elected Democratic presidents in 1992, 1996 and 2000. Were THEY manipulated by the media? Or does media manipulation occur only when people we don't like win?

15. Well said
I would add that those accusations detract attention away from the real problems that I believe exist with the media.

1. "Infotainment" that creates sensational distracting national news stories about local events. Our national news should be about national events.

2. A lack of serious neutral coverage of national news events.

We should focus on the real problems with the media. Distraction, propaganda and a lack of information.

12. The decision is already made before I have a say.
My state's primary election is later than most, and the candidate is usally already decided by then.

large corporations --->> Corporate media = President of the United States

If anyone can't see this, then they are simply refusing to look, suprising in a DUer...although I would understand the masses not seeing this.

Since the 1996 Telecommunications Act was signed, we haven't had a Winner besides Bush. that should tell us something. How can that sorry man be President? Of course it is the media! Same media that took us to war under false pretense.

Even if the candidate I preferred was getting all of the attention in the world, It would not cloud my judgment and justify my rationalizing what power the media has over our democracy.
