U.S. doubts al Qaeda in Iraq leader is wounded

www.cnn.com
The U.S. military today cast doubt on a report from the Iraqi government that al Qaeda in Iraq chief Abu Ayyub al-Masri was wounded in clashes with police. Despite the doubts, Iraq's Interior Ministry stood by its initial report that police wounded al-Masri, said ministry spokesman Brig. Gen. Abdul Karim Khalaf.

We are sending more troops to a government that the Military says lies about their security operations.

1. Anyone else sensing something odd about the story?
When this was announced, my first thought (dripping with cynacism) was "Boy, those guys are good!" Here we are with troops throughout the world catching the #2 guy(s) and those Iraqis his the #1 guy all by themselves!

If they did do it, Bravo! We can come home. If they didn't do it, they're lying and is time for us to come home.

2. A little late for the morning papers
They successfully got this "story" onto the front page of newspapers nationwide. And you know that the debunking will get a tiny paragraph tomorrow on Page A17, if at all.

To quote a famous philosopher, "God, I hate these people."
