What a fucking disgrace then. Worse now, obviously. It was/is easily among the worst buildings in the area.

When Foley ran off and hid, he went to rehab. This is todays sanctuary that hiding in a church used to be.
rehab is a place to run away from media--its certainly how Foley used it. It used to be said that patriotism was the last refuge of scoundrels. Now its rehab with the 2d to last being religion

43. I think he only visits the "mildly" injured.
Didn't he just uninvite a double amputee because he didn't want any pictures of amputees in the press? Or is it because he doesn't want to bother his beautiful mind with the real cost of his war?

Halliburton needs to make a sizable contribution to rehab centers and should be taxed for the Iraq and Afghan veterans' medical care until the last one dies of old age. Problem is, if that was done Halliburton, with it's billions of profits from this war, would suddenly file bankruptcy.

This starting and continuing a war to benefit the war profiteers is evil. No other explanation for it ever made sense. The Iraqis are not better off than they were under Saddam. Saddam did not pose a threat to the US. In addition to the injured whose lives are forever changed, over 3,000 Americans and countless others have died so that Halliburton could make lots of money. That is pure evil!

I agree. Not to get off topic. Example and sacrifice goes a long way towards credibility and respect. Polls say that public opinion of Congress is not that much different than Bush. I'd like to see Congress add more urgency to this problem. A week's vacation after a month or so in session isn't what mainstream America experiences.

I was pissed beyond words. I must have stomped around the house and ranted for a 1/2 hour or so. Then I called a good friend who is a nurse at our local FRESNO VA hospital and inquired about volunteering. She said they're DESPERATE for volunteers. I just figured out a way to channel my anger.

You may have to register to read it. The story of Walter Reed is going to span several days.

Walter Reed Army Hospital is one of the assets that was selected to be closed. All the patients were going to be treated over at Bethesda Naval Hospital. I wonder where they will find the room for all of them.

Edited to add:
I think OP was talking about the White House. They are all chauffered around in black SUVs. Congress mostly uses personal vehicles.

50. Where do you house them?
Edited on Tue Feb-20-07 05:44 PM by BeliQueen
These soldiers need to be moved from these barracks to decent living space. Where should we put them?

Bethesda is one of the most wickedly expensive areas to find housing in the DC Metro area. And space there is at a premium. So do we need to provide stipends to area dwellers to house wounded veterans? Should we commandeer rooms from the 6 or 7 hotels in the area and house them there?

Where do you put the soldiers that are currently living in these rat-infested hell-holes?

Edited to add:

And--after reading the news of the repairs going on right now--I have to say that that just isn't enough. They need to move these men to better quarters and close this building immediately.

51. Yeah ...... commandeer hotels. Put 'em at NIH, in Building 17, where there are .....
..... several hundred unused beds. Move them to another hospital in another city. Find a college dorm. How about the Soldiers' and Airmen's Home in NE DC? Bethesda Naval Medical Center? I don't know. But SURELY there's more than one solution to this.

wtf is wrong with this situation... does EVERYTHING HAVE TO SUCK? OMG.

Sounds to me THIS BUILDING SHOULD BE CONDEMNED. The man in charge of these funds put a huge portion of the money allocated to Reed to his own charity in Texas as I heard from Dana Priest on IMUS this a.m. If I heard correctly.

IMO, this is an EMERGENCY .... Just like Katrina... in many ways and it isn't okay MR. TONY SNOW to defer the American media and American people to the DOD for answers.

You son of a bitch.
