I hate "Evangelicals"
"McCain defends outreach to Christian bloc"

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/17241858/from/RS.3/

Point of order!!!!

I thought that only God can make men leaders...not the evangelicals????

“He recognized he cannot be president of the United States without reaching out to the evangelicals,” Mahoney said. “There definitely is an uneasy relationship between McCain and people of faith, but he is reaching out and he is breaking down those walls. He helped himself in that room tremendously today.”

This story pisses me off on two levels:

1st, McCain pandering to the "Christofacists...
and
2nd, the arrogance of the "Christofacists...

:grr:

:grr: :grr:

2. Me too.
Unlike Dawkins and Harris, I don't hold out ire for moderates. I see them as individuals travelling the road to awakening.

But fundies and evangelicals, they knowingly turn off their brains. Hence, inhuman in my book.

3. You're hatred of evangelicals is too bad ...
The United Church of Christ (UCC) is an extremely liberal organization (i'm not limiting it to just religious sects, Jimmy Carter is an evangelical Christian.

I hate assholes like Falwell, Franklin Graham ...

4. Point taken
I just get so sick of the "Christian faith" being taken hostage by these PHARASIES (sp)!

Jesus was in no way, shape of form like these so-called Christian leaders...just pisses me off to no end!

7. So do I ....
I am really defensive about "Evangelicals" as I worked for the UCC years ago and they were truly the most progressive and activist group of people (hierarchy down to congregants) that I had ever met.

10. The term "Evangelical" has become
To me what the term "liberal" is to the RW. Do these people not realize just how polarizing their rhetoric is? These same brain dead morons are the ones who for the past 7 years have marched around with their holier than thou outlook, supported by the Neocons spreading their hate throughout the US and damaging this nation for many years to come...IMHO

13. I prefer the term the "Christian RW"
... or RW Wacko. Fundie actually conjures up negative images in my mind ... but I also understand all fundamentalists are not hate mongers.

As I stated the term "evangelical" conjures up images stemming from my work with the UCC ... their rhetoric is anything but polarizing.

16. Exactly. The word has become offensive.
I've been reading posts on this thread that some Evangelicals are wonderful, progressive people. Well, I'm sitting here at my computer in a small city in the northeast. Everybody I know, including my friends, family and neighbors, keep religion to themselves. They consider it personal and private.

How in the world would I know which Evangelical group is good and which is bad? For that matter, why should I try to find out? I think that religious groups, or groups of any kind, are responsible for their own reputations. If they want us to know about them, they should tell us about themselves. Right-Wing Christians have done alot more than harm the country they live in--they've harmed their religion with their extremist lurch to the right. I think that Christianity in this country has lost its appeal to alot of people because of the extremists. I think they should try to undo the damage by getting busy with some damage control.

12. Two things
1) I didn't miss the irony. In fact, I believe Christofacism is a great term for the Religious Right in America.

2) I'm not talking about Bush's war. I'm talking about religious extremism. I'm personally not fond of religions (I'm agnostic), but I honestly dislike Radical, Talibanesque Islam. Anything wrong with that?

By the way, I got few posts. However, I challenge you to prove I am, in some way, a troll over here.

18. Well
One example: Homosexuality is punished by death in Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, Iran, Mauritania, Sudan, Somalia and Yemen, and you can get jail time in UAE, Bahrain, Qatar...

This is one example of Islamic theocracies at work. Do you want me to go to Women's Rights?

20. And the GLBT movement
In christian nations is doing hunkey dorey huh?

And did I miss it or are women paid the same as men now...

Listen, I realize the cultural differences are years (thousands) apart, but to label one worse than the other in the context of this post is not what I am looking for. Evnagelicals have raped this country for the past 7 years with their rhetoric and unless we stop them, we may become just like the above mentioned countries...

8. I hate what some evangelicals have done to Religion, due to partisan
politics. Some of these folks have been very stupid with the direction they have chosen. Very Stupid.

Let us pray for them...<sarcasm>

11. Then, you may be interested in knowing
that CREW, Center for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington, is trying to find out when and how often certain Evangelical leaders, including Ted Haggart, visited the White House, but BushCo has classified WH visitor records http://www.citizensforethics.org/activities/legalaction.php .

19. Nice...
I guess you missed the point of my post...sorry if reading and understanding where I was coming from was a bit of a stretch for you. And btw...please don't tell me what I should do and should not do. Frankly I am getting tired of the division on the left side of the dial on these stupid ass wedge issues that you people keep falling for hook, line and sinker! Who care what an overpaid athlete thinks anyway! Personally I will reserve my hatred for those that have caused the NEEDLESS death of over 3000 of our soldiers for their own selfish profits! IF the GLBT wants my support, then lets get our priorites in line; first and foremost let us END this WAR and get these so called "Christian" leaders out of POWER once and for all!

21. We are all on the same page
Believe it or not, you and I want the same thing, even if we disagree on our views on religious extremism and stuff.

I mean, we all want this senseless war to end. We all want the Democratic Party to win in 08 so that the damage that has been done to our society and abroad can be, little by little, reversed as much as possible.

We are on the same page.

Edited on Tue Feb-20-07 07:11 PM by notmypresident
all the quotes in the world does not change your message of hate. And yes, I read your OP. Just more whining and hatred against entire groups because of the actions of some of them.

Frankly I am sick to fucking death of so-called progressives preaching (pardon the term I am sure it offends you) HATE!!

25. Until true "Evangelicals"
that being "believers in the message and teachings of Christ" reclaim the name, I will call it how I see it (as the MSM reports it further supported by the emails I receive from so called "evangelicals" and the messages I hear from the pulpit). I will believe that the term "Evangelical" has been hijacked until it is retuned to it's former glory.
