Hagel comes to mind. Clark comes to mind, Gore comes to mind. No doubt there could be others.

The question is not if you **want** someone else to jump in (around here, that would likely be both Clark and Gore) but rather if you honestly *think* any others will get into it.

2. If we're lucky,
Newt will. If Newt jumps in, he wins the primary as a true conservative, then we slaughter him in the general.

3. For the Dems, I think Clark, for the GOP I think Hagel
There may be a few other non-contenders akin to Sharpton or Bauer that join in, but as for serious candidates, just Clark and Hagel.

4. I think there will be others on both sides
The GOP roster is laughable, but perhaps they are holding back this go-round because it's looking like a Dem slam dunk regardless of who gets the nom.

My fantasy is that Gore will announce his running during his Oscar acceptance speech.

6. By this time next year we will
probably be begging someone, anyone, to get in the race. The mud is already being slung and we may end up with it deep enough that it will be touching our necks.

7. Yes
I believe Clark and Gore will both become Dem nominees.

I am going to go Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay out on a limb and say that Christie Todd Whitman may become a GOP runner as well.

I believe that if Clinton should become the nominee, you will see a strong 3rd party emmerge as well. I believe in that scenario, Lincoln Chafee can or will play a roll... possibly re-energizing the now defunct Reform party.

8. That's some interesting, out of the box thinking .......
.... and, in the spirit in which I asked the question - pure speculation with no need for proof - as valid an opinion as anyone's.

I, personally, would never, ever have guessed Lincoln Chafee .... but neither can I argue with it.

9. gravitas
as time and money marches on, it becomes very, very difficult to get in. to get in late, you have to have that extra extra.

i think there are two, maybe 3 who have it.

number one, from the darkhorse corner of extra extra, is RFK Jr. ... it would be fascinating if the decided to run. i doubt he will.

and then we come to darkhorse number two. darkhorse number two would be way more than fascinating. it would be a brand new day and all bets on frontrunners would quickly become much fuzzier. the mystery guest for my second late entry: Howard Dean. will he run? right now? no. possible? i think it's a possibility. i base that on years of wild speculation and seemingly no interest in the facts.

and the non-darkhorse, ya just gotta keep him on all the lists, is Al Gore. ready for more wild speculation? 50-50. anyone who says they know doesn't know. that goes for both innies and outies.

bottom line? two i doubt its and one who knows.

11. You forgot Newt!
He's been making noises about running and the true blue Reaganites would love it but frankly I don't think he wants the humiliation.

Hagel could get in just to make a point but I have a better chance of getting the Republican nomination.

Clark will get in if he thinks he sees an opening.

As for Gore, I don't know. I'm wondering if he sees Obama as a stalking horse for Hillary Clinton and will get in after Obama softens her up and the public gets nervous about Obama. On the other hand, he may actually be OK with any one of the Democratic candidates and really has no intention of running. Right now he's a very happy man doing what he loves best. If the Democrats have a good candidate why should he give himself the grief?
