Could Dems close ranks behind a Gore/Obama ticket in '08?
And if so, how about the rest of the country, or would many moderates feel the ticket to be "too liberal?"

How would you feel about a Gore/Obama ticket?

2. Dems are going to close rank behind ANY ticket in '08
Only those habitually dissatisfied souls will pout if they're candidate isn't invited to the dance.

7. His own statements.
Obama and Hillary have sucked up most of the big time donors. Gore isn't running.

22. Gore is running right now
As we speak he is running for President, he is being treated just like any other candidate, only without the slings and arrows.

Since he hasn't stated he won't run (as he did in 2002) and he hasn't asked the draft Gore movment to stop (as he did in 2002), it is clear he is running.

When he makes it "official" probably September, but for now he is the "non candidate" candidate.

27. Enough of the naysaying around here
Until he comes out with a Shermanesque statement that he absolutely, positively isn't running, there's a chance that he will. In 2004, he asked all of the draft Gore groups to stop because he wasn't going to run. He hasn't done that this time and he knows it's going on. A very good friend of his runs algore.org. He is doing wonderful things and getting publicity without spending a dime. He can afford to wait until the fall and stay above the fray while everyone else destroys themselves. People will drop out -- it's already started with Vilsack dropping out already (not that he had a chance anyway).

4. As long as GORE heads a ticket....
...then I wouldn't care if his running mate was a 1970 candy apple red Pontiac GTO.

And the first one to place that reference wins today's trivia award.

8. He has only stated that he has no plans to run.
Those remarks leave the door wide open. What does he have to gain by announcing right this minute that he is running? I can only imagine the number of times per day he gets asked this question. He has been real coy about it. Right now, he is enjoying the best of both worlds.

11. It would look hypocritical for Gore to run after saying "I have no plans to run" repeatedly
Sure, he might not say "I will never run ever!" But I think it's pretty clear he isn't running for president in 2008. What more can the man say?

15. No it wouldn't. With all he has going on right now?
Perfectly understandable, and easily thwarted. Sure, the republicans would have apoplexy, and try to paint Gore as a liar, but it won't wash. Gore is a very busy man, with many demands placed on his time. The public understands this.

to running.

Whether he will or not, remains to be seen, and the fact he left the door open specifically shields him from charges of hypocrisy.

20. Very true! I would suggest Bill Moyers or Dennis Kucinich as a VP. This would
allow Gore to run in the general to the middle (in tone, in style) while holding the left flank tied in close and activated.

It would also serve to enhance presidential security.

17. I'm happy with any combination of Gore, Obama, Clark, Edwards, Dodd, or Kucinich.
When you ask "would many moderates feel the ticket to be 'too liberal?'" Bear in mind that Gore is not particularly "liberal" on most social issues other than the environment. Gore was a big and early supporter of V-chips, he opposed the death penalty moratorium for new DNA techniques, and he has been a huge supporter of authorizing churches access to federal funds to provide welfare services. These are not especially liberal issues. Like Gore, Obama is also to the right of Kucinich, Edwards, Dodd, and Clark on many issues.

25. That is my second favorite ticket
Gore/Clark is my favorite, but Gore/Obama has many advantages.

I believe, like most things in America, baby steps must be achieved before there is a big leap. I don't believe Obama can win in the general election. Unfotunately too many people are still too prejudice.

However, if Obama has been VP for 8 years, I think that would be sufficient for people to come to terms with their prejudice, realize the world didn't end and that he did a damn good job as VP.

I personally believe that Clark is more qualified for the job experience wise; however, I also like to see progress in civil rights.

The only things that maybe would be better, or at least as good, are Gore/Feingold or Gore/Clark or Gore/Richardson.

28. If you want to discuss Gore ----
Please come to the Al Gore for '08 Group -- we're trying to get more activity over there and keep all the Gore stuff in one place. Daily links to articles, media coverage, etc. are posted there, as well as links to posts in GDP and elsewhere.
