Using the names of the candidates currently campaigning, please rank them as to who was closest to the most successful presidential administration of the last 50 years.

Your list will be helpful for those of us without candidates at this time but who are looking to support successful Democrats.

Here is mine:

Hillary Clinton
Bill Richardson
Joe Biden
John Edwards
Christopher Dodd
Dennis Kucinich
Barack Obama
Mike Gravel

Feel free to offer an explanation why you believe your preferred candidate is the Democrat MOST LIKELY to return us to the peace and prosperity of the 90s.

1. Exactly. Which candidate wants to take us backwards
And, ahm, only one was married to Bill Clinton, so, ahm, I think Hillary was indeed the closest to Bill Clinton. Unless the rest are hiding secrets we really don't want to know.

Ah, this request makes no sense at all. I want someone who wants to move forward into the future, not back to the past.

7. Glad you asked. So far Chris Dodd has been impressive
His speeches in the Senate have been impressive. The few campaign speeches that have been televised are also impressive. What are the negatives concerning him? He appears to be educated in foreign affairs and follows the basic Democratic platform of the welfare of our country and people and not so much the corporations. He speaks well and appears to appeal to those he meets with in person. They like what he says and he answers in a straight forward way.

17. Well he has been there longer...
Edwards was only Senator during the last two years of the Clinton admin...while Dodd was there helping the entire time...

Dodd was also head of the DNC for 2 years during that time...

14. Closest to Bill? Either Al Gore or Monica Lewinsky. You set yourself up for this.
Edited on Fri Feb-23-07 02:08 PM by David Zephyr
You should be informed that should Al Gore even wink that he might run, your thinly-suggested, and self-imposed rationale for backing Hillary for President would, of course, immediately box you into then supporting the former Vice President, for he was indeed the "closest" to President Clinton during those years, not Hillary.

However, if you were then to un-artfully suggest that your use of the word "closest" meant intimacy, then again, you would have to support Monica Lewinsky, wouldn't you?

In either case, your thread's suggested rationale of who was "closest" to Bill Clinton during his presidency does not make a case for Hillary at all.

It only makes a case for Al Gore or Monica Lewinsky. ;)

23. Hummm, thought this was a serious question.
Apparently it's a Hillary question?

This two person race that is going on is boring. There are other candidates and most people, one would think, seriously are interested in all the candidates. Bill did a good job. Best we have had in decades. Now, on to the next election and let's not annoint anyone this early. We have lots to debate over each one.

24. The prosperity part didn't apply to most people
--particularly not the victims of welfare "reform" or the massively expanding prison population (the War on Some Drugs), which eliminated hundreds of thousands of Democratic voters from the voting rolls.

25. That would be incorrect
The most important statistics--that is, the amount of people in poverty and the amount of people unemployed--decreased every year under Clinton, and their incomes increased every year. The so called "victims" of welfare reform mostly left because they found work.

26. That's not prosperity
Which you would know if you'd ever tried to live on an income just above poverty level. The victims of welfare "reform" found work that made them much poorer, and left them without health care coverage.
