This post won't mean much to anyone that doesn't remember...
who Johnny Horton! The song that I was just listening to was... Jim Bridger... on The Johnny Horton Greatest hits CD.... I think this song certainly says where we are today... "Wouldn't listen" is the key here....

1. Of 'Battle of New Orleans' and 'Sink the Bismark' fame?
Johnny Horton died the same day as Ward Bond.

What are the lyrics to 'Wouldn't Listen'?

2. Damn, we are old, canuck...
Once there was a mountain man who couldn't write his name
Yet he deserves the front row seat in History's Hall of Fame
He forgot more about the Indians than we will ever know
He spoke the language of the Sioux the Black Foot and the Crow
(Let's drink to old Jim Bridger yes lift your glasses high)
As long as there's the USA don't let his memory die
(That he was making history never once occured to him)
But I doubt if we'd been here if it weren't for men like Jim

He spoke with General Custer and said listen Yellow Hair
The Sioux are the great nation so treat 'em fair and square
Sit in on their war councils, don't laugh away their pride
But Custer didn't listen at Little Big Horn Custer died
(Let's drink to old Jim Bridger...

There's poems and there's legends that tell of Carson's fame
Yet compared to Jim Bridger Kit was civilized and tame
These words are straight from Carson's lips if you place that story by him
If there's a man who knows this God forsaken land it's Jim
(Let's drink to old Jim Bridger...

5. Sorry gang, but I think this guy really was a Republican... ugh..
By some of the songs that he came up with.... I will deal with him when I pass/Cross over on this... lol

But on the bright note, he seemed to do some Left songs as well.... Like the one in my previous post.

7. Did Creedence Clearwater Revival rip off his 'Big Wheels Rollin ' line?
I remember Tina stealing the Clearwater song - seems fairer if Clearwater first borrowed his line.

I know he was late 50's - but he wasn't a favorite of mine back then (my favorites never got recording contracts back then - I am a lousy judge of music talent). :-)
