Did I just see in a news item that the reason Geffen attacked with Clintons
was because Clinton failed to pardon Leonard Peltier. Peltier was convicted of killing two federal agents on the Pine Ridge Rez in 1977? Many, including Geffen, believe Peltier is innocent

1. Peltier is innocent
It is actually fascinating and infuriating story. And Clinton should have pardoned him.

4. You may have
He may have filed a new appeal recently. I used to follow his case closely but haven't stayed up on it lately like I used to. He has a slew of lawyers and lots of support from people who think he was screwed on several levels.

6. It'sGaffen's right to disagree with Cinton's decision. I see no problem
with that. Gaffon also has the right to spend his $$ on whatever candidate he want's to support. I guess the only problem I see in this mess at all is that Obama didn'tjust sayGeffen was speaking for himself, which he has the right to do, but not for me.

I also think the media ismaking way too much of a deal about this small tiff. They're campaign opponents for goodness sake! They're going to have differing opinions and take some shots at each other. THAT'S POLITICS! Get over it people!!!!

8. Well Bill Press said that it's good that this reasoning come out because
(words to the effect that) it will make HRC appeal to more moderate Democrats and free her from firm association with us untouchable LIBERAL scum. :eyes: Is it any wonder that I can fully identify with the main character within the Geico Caveman Commercials.

So thoughtful that Peltier dispute. <sipping my perrier water> Such horrid lefty positions will NOW distance HRC from those disgusting leftists, i.e., implied traitors.

Centrist Strategists? I have no damn use for them. :puke:

9. I don't think so
I think what you saw is that David Geffen is a lefty, of the kind who believe Peltier should get a new trial. That doesn't mean that has anything at all to do with what he said about the Clintons.

11. What I should have done was print out the story. I'm Native and
have done a great deal of research on the Peltier case and that story caught my immediate attention. I know I saw it and read the whole thing. Now, it is gone!!! Oh well - someone pulled it!!!

12. Link re Dowd's column/Geffen's request for pardon for Peltier...........
http://www.editorandpublisher.com/eandp/news/article_display.jsp?vnu_content_id=1003548043

More from Dowd:
<snip>
-- They fell out in 2000, when Mr. Clinton gave a pardon to Marc Rich after rebuffing Mr. Geffen’s request for one for Leonard Peltier. “Marc Rich getting pardoned? An oil-profiteer expatriate who left the country rather than pay taxes or face justice?” Mr. Geffen says. “Yet another time when the Clintons were unwilling to stand for the things that they genuinely believe in. Everybody in politics lies, but they do it with such ease, it’s troubling.”

16. Thank you Manny Goldstein - That;s the story!! Flu or not -
I knew I read it. I still have mixed emotions on the Peltier case. Those were crazy years up there at Pine Ridge and there was a great deal of anger and confusion bubbling up. That deal with Anna Mae and her murder didn't help. No matter, Leonard has served almost 30 years. If he has mellowed and I think he has, he can still do a lot of good for his community and they sure could use his help.

13. Peltier's A Loser
Edited on Sat Feb-24-07 12:45 AM by MannyGoldstein
Marc Rich had cash for a pardon - Peltier didn't. Sucks for Peltier.

Ya gotta pay to play with Clintons.

(yes, yes :sarcasm: - I really don't know if Peltier's a loser or not. But if he didn't have cash for Mr. Clinton, it's pretty unlikely he'd get a pardon)

15. Bingo.
(I'm back. It's so hard to stay away.)

It's all about the money and not about the size of a house. Candidates that have to pay people to be their whores for endorsements are wrong, bad, not good.

I'm done or this post will be disappeared.
