Obama's ballot problem?
Edited on Sat Feb-24-07 02:12 AM by Ninja Jordan
I've got WAY too much time on my hands. But aren't presidential candidates' full names printed on ballots? That is, George Walker Bush and John Forbes Kerry for example? If so, do you think Obama's team is aware of the fact that Barack Hussein Obama would be printed on the ballot itself? If I'm on Obama's team, I'm making sure the ballots read as either 'Barack Obama' or 'Barack H. Obama.' It may seem trivial to some, but a voter in the ballot booth might be so fickle.

1. No
there's no requirement for the full name.

I voted for Jimmy Carter, not James Earl Carter.

2. Any variation on your name can be printed.
My name has always appeared on the ballot as "Paul L. Sungenis" instead of fully spelled out. Our local thug Congresscritter always has "Frank LoBiondo" instead of "Francis LoBiondo," and so forth.

3. I see. It will be key for Obama to stay on top of how the precincts are printing his name IMO.

4. By the time people enter the ballot box.. their mind should be made up..

Just look at the photos again at that Austin event and you'll realize the draw that Obama brings..

---> http://www.wfaa.com/sharedcontent/dws/pt/slideshows/2007/02/022307obama

And besides.. the name "BUSH" isn't exactly appealing..

In fact.. by the time the U-Haul finally pulls in front of Pennsylvania Avenue to drag his belongings to his fake ranch, the 29% of Americans that still like the asshole will be disgusted with him.

BUSH = BAD
OBAMA = GOOD

Barack will be fine ~~

5. You would think so.
But we need an '08 victory bad. Something fickle like this could turn 1000 votes against him, which is all that may be needed.

7. Jimmy Carter -- that's how I remember his name on the ballot
Your name is what you say it is, presumably when you file to run in the first place, and that's what gets printed on the ballot. Even if it's a nickname like Jimmy.

Clinton used his full name with Bill in parentheses. My old Representative from Hawai'i was known as Sparky Matsunaga, and I can't remember if he ever used the name his parents gave him on the ballot.

Barack Obama doesn't use his middle name in his public life -- notice how it's presented on the covers of his two books. It won't appear on the ballot. When he was a boy his family and friends called him Barry, so the fact that he became Barack as an adult in public life already says something about him.

8. Here's a question: could GOP Sec'ys of State in battleground states purposely include 'Hussein'?

11. Honestly, I don't know for certain, but it sounds illegal & risky for them to try...
... not that "illegal" has stopped them before this!

15. Yes.
Your name is printed on the ballot the way it appears on the petitions filed.

18. the wise american voter being "fickle" about his middle name is perfectly within reason....
yet the idea that many more will be "fickle" about his skin color is just too far out there? lol.

17. Good question. My guess is it's controlled by
the same folks who bought Diebold.

I wonder if he should legally change his name, quick.

Take another hit ...

Yeah. A candidate changing their name mid-campaign is a brilliant idea..

Pssssstt .. If I ever run for anything, remind me not to hire you.
