I link to DU in emails to my conservative friends and family.....
to debunk their rw talking points, or to a well written essay on subjects of common interest that we invariably disagree on...most of the time they laugh or tell me it is just a lefty site with no objectivity. on rare instances it leads them to the lies behind their own sources of anti-Democratic smears by the right, and they admit they or their sources were misleading or wrong.

Lately, they email me links from DU smearing Hillary Clinton. They say that it is a much better source for the "truth" about this right wing boogeyman than the conservative Republican messageboards they frequent. They say many others are doing the same.

And they laugh.

1. For clarification....

You're saying the GOP gets comfort out of knowing we're split on Hillary Clinton, and they're is a lot of passion against her? If I'm getting the drift of your post correctly. Well, I'd let them know that DU represents a small portion of the Democrats in this country, and that our opinion while valuable isn't the overall opinion. I hear a lot about Kerry bashing here at DU in 2003-2004, and who was the nominee for our party in '04? DU isn't the end all when it comes to opinions of the Democratic party. We're just passionate Democrats who use this board to rant, rave, debate, and vent!!

And ummm, what are your friends and family doing lurking in DU?

2. I been saying we are being watched
That's why I too call for our family here just to say I disagree and leave it at that we need not give ammo to the right wing

6. its amazing that we see posts here every day...
pointing to some idiotic comments on rw message boards, yet people think they cannot do the same with idiotic comments here.

9. Define idiotic comments?
I don't see much here that I would see on RW sites. RW sites have mostly idiotic comments. Here it's mostly just opinion, but usually if I don't agree with it....it's still not idiotic. I have heard some idiotic things though, as I have from ALL message boards!!

11. do you read the multiple clinton hit pieces that are cropping...
up? they fairly rival the idiotic rw talking points about the Clintons, and sometimes surpass them.

read the front pages of GD and GDP...let alone the 2nd and 3rd pages.

13. It depends on the post/poster.
I'm aware of the multiple threads Hillary is bashed in. I'm also aware that Edwards is often bashed too, a lot times by Clarkies. And for some reason I see some Obama bashing popping up left and right as the weeks and months go on. Frankily, I don't mind criticism. It's the baseless bashing I don't like. The stuff I heard a few weeks ago about Hillary costing Gore the election, Hillary should be sent to Iraq, we shouldn't vote for Edwards because of the size of his house, and Edwards is fake and lying!!

But you have to take into consideration DU is such a small portion of the party, and frankily if the RW wants to use us to spread lies...they're going to spread lies anyway. They already do!! But they can't justify 100,000 posters representing the WHOLE party. I go back to the point of 2003-2004, while I wasn't here I heard the fact there was a lot of Kerry bashing going on. Who was the nominee then? Kerry!! I see the same thing now. DU's opinion about who should be the nominee, and shouldn't needs to be ignored. We all have our opinions, but the overall opinion at DU isn't the overall opinion of the party.

RW will lurk this board, and we can't stop that. But I just don't think it'll matter much if they do.

I'm sure we have plenty of RW lurkers, hell wasn't DU on Tom Delay's website for something?!?

But I seriously doubt many post here, and if they do...I doubt we'd buy the bullshit they're saying!!

12. Excellent point. The "circular firing squad" helps the right wing and hurts us
There is nothing wrong with a competitive primary, but America needs to learn a lesson from what happened to us in Californa: Our Democratic Gubernatorial candidates tore each other apart to the point that the very unpopular Arnold Schwarzenegger breezed to an easy victory! I don't want Guliani, McCain, or Romney to have a Schwarzenegger experience in 2008! I have a feeling I will end up voting for Obama or Edwards, but you will NEVER see me smear any of our fine Democratic candidates here at DU, and I will vote for the Democratic candidate in November 2008. There's nothing wrong with criticizing fellow Democrats on the issues, but doing whatever it takes to destroy them is just self-defeating. We need to save the venom for those who deserve it..the radical right wing!
