AL GORE is NOT Nominated for an OSCAR
I love the guy but Im an OSCAR guy as well and even though the MOVIE he was in is nominated its not HIM that gets the OSCAR. As much as Id like to see him win the Nomination and win would go to Davis Guggenheim who was the films Director. Its just been bugging me since the nominations came out to see so many people make that mistake. HE WILL BE A PRESENTER tonight though, so thats very cool, but he isnt nominated so lets get that in our heads.

1. what's your point? His inspiration isn't enough?

He was given 100% credit by the producers for this film.

2. My point is he is not nominated
the post right before mine was titled OScar Hopeful. FUrther to the Point, people hoping that he will "WIN" or will get to accept the trophy (although the directors can have him come up) will be dissapointed. SO if people are under the illusion that there is going to be a picture of him in the papers on stage "winning" it aint happening. And since you asked let me make another point, its actually a good thing to be accurate, Unless your point is we shouldnt.

3. I think what people mean is that they hope the film will win. If the film wins,
Gore will be on stage with Davis Guggenheim.

5. I thought the director already said he'll be up there if they win
the Oscar? But he's not going to be the one speaking.

9. the Director has indicated he'd have Gore up there...
and insinuated Gore would be given the bulk of time available to make comments.

8. Not a good thing to be patronizing..
The media has blurred the lines, not DUers. He will win, if AIT wins, in terms of being the inspiration and on-screen star for an Oscar-winning documentary.

16. There very well could be a pic in the papers of Gore holding up an Oscar:
Edited on Sun Feb-25-07 01:53 PM by Seabiscuit
He'll likely be standing besides the guy who receives it, who could very well hand it to Gore for the cameras.

It is, after all, a film merely documenting Al Gore and his global warming lectures. The film couldn't exist without Al Gore.

In fact, when the director hands Gore the Oscar, he just might say: "This belongs to you, Al!"

18. There WILL be front page pics of Gore holding up the Oscar!
It just happened - The director passed the Oscar to Gore on stage and said "we share this with you", and Gore gave a speech holding the Oscar.

SO THERE!

17. Is there some secret code in your post?

The way you capitalize certain letters...And if he does
accept the "trophy" I think most people here on DU will
be thrilled. You're the exception and your anger will
not dampen anyone's excitement. Sorry to disappoint
YOU. It sucks to be ineffectual, doesn't it?

4. Maybe Not In Fact
Edited on Sun Feb-25-07 11:01 AM by Me.
But in spirit that Oscar belongs to him as much as anyone, a fact the director has acknowledged. I believe the movie will win for a number of reasons and when it does Al Gore will be invited up on the stage. Whether or not he speaks is another matter as that honor is usually reserved for the winner.

12. Its been driving me nuts too!
Edited on Sun Feb-25-07 12:31 PM by Pithy Cherub
The Executive producers and Melissa Etheridge (song) are the only two nominees for An Inconvenient Truth. Al gets to possibly walk the red carpet with Tipper, clap, present, be interviewed and hang out at Sir Elton John's party. (Its in a highly decorated tent and the backdrop this year with silvery white as the central color and you can watch the entire program from inside the tent next to a museum this year.) Al gets to hand somebody an Oscar, not get one.

Its cool and sunny with clouds. The fans are already in the stands with overhangs and the light pinkish plastic is still on the Giant Oscar statues in case of rain. Streets are closed off and traffic is piling up. The stars are getting their last massages. That's the local color of the Hollywood scene. OK off to watch our annual spectacle!

13. If....
..."An Inconvenient Truth" wins, Al Gore wins...and we all win. The gold plated statue is just a non-biodegradable nuisance.

14. It'll be okay anyway
President Gore will be on the stage, and he will be wildly cheered for a long time. It will be good for him and for us. :)

20. Gore IS "The Inconvenient Truth"
He was the inspiration for the documentary because it is about him and the slide shows he has been showing for 30+ years.

Give the guy his due.
