Group: Bottling plant would deplete supply

The Associated Press

February 20. 2007 9:30AM

A group opposing a bottled water plant has recruited another member in its five-year effort: presidential candidate Rep. Dennis Kucinich.

The Ohio Democrat told Save Our Groundwater that he supports its concerns that a USA Springs project in Barrington could deplete local water supplies. Kucinich said he would use his U.S. House subcommittee chairmanship to help the local issue.

"I can't predict what will happen, but I will seek every avenue that will help stop this project," Kucinich said yesterday.

USA Springs hopes to draw more than 300,000 gallons a day from local water supplies.

Kucinich chairs the House Domestic Policy Subcommittee, a new panel whose oversight includes the Environmental Protection Agency and the Department of the Interior. He said water rights will be as important in this century as oil rights were in the 20th century.

3. Mr K. just rose several notches in my opinion....
...if he can bring this one home for the people of NH as an out of state congressional representative I will again revise my opinion upward.

4. As a Great Lakes resident, this issue is of up most importance to me and many other residents...
The further privatization of fresh water from the Great Lakes really bothers me. There is no reason why bottling plants and municipalities in the southwest should be able to auction off the water of the Great Lakes.

There is absolutely no reason why one should expect green lawns and golf courses in the desert southwest at the expense of the Great Lakes.

Xeriscaping should be a mandated program, not a opt-in program.

5. Did you know the Reich wing plans to sell TX ground water to Mexico for the benefit
of a Spanish company, bill us for the right and guarantee the profits with you tax dollars? Check out The Trans Texas Corridor. It is just part of the plan to merge Mexico The USA and Canada for the benefit of a few billionaires at all our expense.
