Would Al Run As An Independent Or Green?
Something that occurred to me today... I wonder if Gore is considering running as an Independent. Or, as the representative from the Green Party? I mean, he's got enough money that he could finance his own campaign. The Dems need him more than he needs the Dems.

Just thinkin'....

4. Greens = Republican enablers...
Of all people Al Gore would know that!!!

Al Gore is a LOYAL Democrat and were he to ever run again (which I doubt he will), he will run as a Democrat...

6. they wouldn't accept him
his views on trade, death penalty, healthcare, taxes and a myriad of other issues are too far to the right of theirs. This is the whole reason they ran against him to begin with. I neve runderstood why Nader didn't just run for congress rather then the presidency. He could have won a congressional seat as an independant or Green and could have effected much more change..

7. After Nader's run in '00 took 2 1/2 million votes which may have gone to Gore,
I doubt he would ever run on the Green ticket. That would seal the fate of Democrats in the election, as he would siphon off votes normally won by the Democratic candidate. The same is true if he ran as an independent. Being a liberal Democrat he would get many Democratic votes and not many if any Repub votes, so it would only help the Repubs, and Gore is smart enough to know that.

8. ??? Why would he throw the election to the repoobs???
Because that is exactly what would happen if he ran third party.

10. Oh, for the love of Pete....Al's a Dem, his dad was a Dem, and so on...
I think the Democratic Party is rooted in that family, honestly. No way Al would leave it, unless the party fundamentally changed for the worse.

11. UNLESS the party changed for the worse? It HAS
And not even Al can drag it far enough back to the left it once was.

14. I said "fundamentally" changed for the worse, which you missed.
As in, the Democratic party of the 19th century, which openly supported slavery and then the KKK and suppressing the rights of black people to vote.

The Democrats have changed for the worse, no question. But when I said "fundamentally" I meant that to mean a change of that magnitude.

I also meant for DUers to include it in any quoting of my posts. I feel a little like Al, being misquoted.

19. The party was only "to the left" for a short period of time
Al Gore was one of the people who moved the party back to the center.

15. Al Gore will support the Democratic ticket
Al Gore on Larry King Live, CNN, June 13, 2006

LARRY KING: Think Hillary's the favorite?

AL GORE: I guess so. I think it's too early, though, to speculate on who the candidates will be.

KING: Will you support no matter who the Democrat is?

GORE: I'm certain.

KING: Will you support Hillary?

GORE: I'm certain I'd support the nominee.

http://transcripts.cnn.com/TRANSCRIPTS/0606/13/lkl.01.html

So it means that either Al Gore will seek the Democratic nomination, or he will not run in 2008.

I think Al Gore is keeping his options open right now, watching how the "pre-season" goes. I don't think he yet knows what he will do. There is no hurry for Gore to enter the race for 2008.

Let's all find ways to show our support for Al Gore! :patriot:
