We're not near a military base and it was the first time I had seen this color. (I had seen pictures and knew they are used in the desert.)
I can't get the sight out of my head or heart. It was a huge convoy. The vehicles looked old, repainted and refurbished. I'm not sure where they were going.
We were a few miles from the exit to the Birmingham Airport. Maybe air lifted to a base or....... who knows.
With fresh paint, I fear they are on their way to "a" desert.
As we drove along side, my heart broke and my mind wondered around about what would become of them and the people who will be driving and riding in them.......

2. They could belong to the Alabama National Guard or Reserves
The sand color might be from being in Iraq or painted so as to be ready
for Iran, Iraq, Afghanistan, or ?.

5. You're right. I heard on the news this evening, B*sh is digging deeper
and deeper into reserve units everywhere. An Iraq vet was on KO and he said "they" are depleting everything we have to keep our military in Iraq.

3. Sounds like a Reserve, or Guard unit.
If they're deploying, you might find something about it in your local paper. Otherwise, they might just be doing their monthly training.
