Al Sharpton getting DEATH threats
Edited on Sat Apr-14-07 12:07 PM by bigdarryl
My take on this is some of the threats are coming from the HIP HOP community. and maybe even the companies themselves putting others up to it. theres a lot of money coming out of HIP HOP and the sponsors of it. If i could talk to Al i would tell him don't go there its to risky. http://wcbstv.com/topstories/local_story_104002437.html

1. Some people hate Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson because....
They were practically the only ones with the guts to stand up for minorities and civil rights in general after 9/11.

10. People hate them for many reasons, judge yourself by your enemies. Pict here
Me, I respect the hell out of these 2 guys. Self promoting? Perhaps. But effective and working at all sorts of good things. Here's a picture UPJr took last yr of the guys. Yes, we were this close and yes, there were a bunch of hefty guys standing around watching us all. It was very cool.

11. These are the same people that are sending hate mail to the girls
on the basketball team...total scumbags (and that is being polite).

3. I would miss Al Sharpton's voice if he didn't speak up on the issues.
Which he is seldom shy to do. I like Al, and no matter what his opinions are on any issue, it violates the letter and spirit of democracy to threaten him into silence.

I don't think anything is gained by asking an intelligent and thoughtful man to be quiet. Shame on whoever placed these threats.

6. I respect Sharpton, but dislike some of the things he's said...
Double standards and one sided arguements and such. BUT, you're right. He should not be silenced. His voice is needed in advancing equality, civil rights, and minority rights. I don't subscribe to everything he says, but I respect him and his agenda.

5. Considering that the reporting of these threats must have come from Sharpton are they credible?

His credibility in some areas rivals Rove's

8. OK - help me understand. Sharpton speaks out on behalf of minorities
- women and black people by decrying the racist sexist remarks made by an old white rich radio bum - and it's the hop-hop community that want to see Sharpton shut up?

Please help me get my tiny little brain around that.

My money says that the old racist sexist white rich crowd is behind the threats. Maybe, just maybe, the Iman himself is (in some sufficiently distant way of course) connected to the threats - not saying that in accusatory fashion - but to me it makes more sense than the hip-hop community being behind the threats.
