Iowa Poll Shows Romney, Edwards in Lead

By MIKE GLOVER
The Associated Press

DES MOINES, Iowa -- Republican Mitt Romney and Democrat
John Edwards are atop a poll of likely Iowa caucus voters
because both presidential candidates have invested so much
time organizing and visiting the state, activists in both
parties said Monday.

Romney was backed by 30 percent, ahead of Arizona Sen.
John McCain with 18 percent and former New York City Mayor
Rudy Giuliani with 17 percent, according to the poll in the
Des Moines Sunday Register.

Edwards was ahead with 29 percent of those surveyed,
compared to 23 percent for Illinois Sen. Barack Obama and
21 percent for New York Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, the
poll showed.

Romney's strong showing is a reward for his focus on Iowa,
said Iowa Republican Chairman Ray Hoffmann.

1. I told you guys to watch out for Romney
but hopefully he is the 'Howard Dean' of the GOP this year and he eventually crashes.

2. Why the hell do we have to watch out for ANY of their candidates?

The Ugly Thuglies need to watch out for whoever WE nominate.

Screw whoever they put up.

Do you have a thing for Mitt or something?

3. Edwards continues to do well in Iowa
I think the race is going to go down to Hillary vs someone else.

National polls show Edwards in third, however if Edwards wins Iowa, everything could change. For one, Edwards could become the alternative to Hillary. It could even mushroom, like Kerry's rise from nowhere in Iowa to become the inevitable nominee within weeks.

I pay attention to national polls, but I know how fickle this can be once the media machine hypes up Iowa and New Hampshire.

While the media have portrayed it as a race mainly between Obama and Hillary, I don't discount Edwards' chances.

I am still hoping for Clark or Gore to enter the race which would stir things up considerably.
