"Firemen douse Rudy’s image as 9/11 hero"
Edited on Thu Jul-12-07 12:51 PM by madison
Rudy Giuliani is a vicious, lying creep.

The NYC firefighters had supported Rudy all three times he ran for NYC mayor -- in 1989 (Rudy lost that year), 1993, and 1997.

The NYC firemen have been speaking out against Rudy ever since Rudy allowed them to dig at Ground Zero (looking for the remains of their loved ones) ONLY up until the day, Oct. 31, 2001, that they found the $200 million in gold bullion. The NEXT day, Nov. 1, 2001, Mayor Rudy pulled the firemen off the site and would not let more than 25 at a time dig for the remains of their sons, brothers, fathers, friends.

Previously, 80 to 150 firefighters and dozens of NYPD cops were involved in the search daily.

On Nov. 1, Mayor Rudolph Giuliani announced that "more than $230 million" worth of gold and silver bars that had been stored in a bomb-proof vault had been recovered.

In other words, the firemen were allowed to dig for remains until the gold was found and then Rudy, under pressure from NYC businessmen who wanted the city to return to "normalcy" as soon as possible, stopped most of the firefighters from any more digging.

When the firemen protested, on Nov. 5, 2001, Rudy had a dozen firefighters arrested.

Angry firefighters punched police officers and tried to storm Ground Zero yesterday in a protest against the city's decision to limit the number of rescue workers at the World Trade Center site. A dozen firefighters were arrested after they overturned police barricades as the rally turned into a melee just a block from the still-smoking wreckage.

Rudy apparently didn't give a darn about the firefighters' "safety" until AFTER they had recovered the $200 million in gold. Then, Rudy decided it would be "safer" if only 25 at a time did any digging? The one thing people need to recognize is that the NYC firemen are often very closely related to one another; they are fathers, sons, brothers, uncles and cousins, serving on the same squads. Recovering the remains from the site mattered deeply to them. They were looking for whatever they could find of family members. It's more than curious that Rudy decided the firemen would be "safer" if only 25 dug at a time ONLY AFTER -- the DAY AFTER -- they recovered the gold. Hmm.

Union bid to halt White House run

The Sunday Times
March 18, 2007

(excerpt)

Jim Riches, 29, had been helping to rescue office workers in the north tower when it collapsed.

<snip>

Riches was one of 343 firefighters who died. His father spent every day sifting through the wreckage for bodies, eager for some sign of his son. In November, Giuliani ORDERED a HALT to the work after the remains of 91 firefighters had been recovered.

“Giuliani told everybody the bodies were pulverised, but I was digging them up every day. It was grisly stuff, limbs, little bones -- people were blown to bits -- but the bodies were there,” said Riches, 55.

The searchers refused to stop. An ugly clash between the firefighters and the New York police left 18 officers injured. Eventually Giuliani backed down and allowed the work to continue, but not before branding the firefighters’ actions as "sinful."

As late as March, clumps of victims -- 13 here, five there, a couple more scattered around -- were being found. One of them was Riches' son.

Mr. Riches wrote in a letter, "He (Rudy Giuliani) tried to close the site after the gold and silver were found in Nov. 2001. He had the firefighters arrested at a protest to keep it open. While I was digging for my son's body in 2001, Rudy was watching the World Series game . Some hero!!!" http://www.nysun.com/comments/25203

1. God bless them
for bringing this to light. Bless them all for their courage and tenacity and for refusing to give up until their comrades were found. I only hope I can be as brave if faced with similar circumstances.
