Obama Taps Wall Street for Dollars

WASHINGTON - Democrat Barack Obama, who has decried Wall Street profits and CEO pay, has tapped a vein of donors among bankers and financiers who have given generously and helped drive his successful presidential campaign sprint for cash.

Among the firms whose employees gave the most to Obama in the second quarter of the year were Lehman Brothers, Goldman Sachs, Citigroup and JP Morgan. Their money, much of it the maximum donation allowed by law, placed Obama in competition with Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton for high-finance dollars in her own backyard of New York.

Employees who work on Wall Street can contribute to whoever they want, last I checked. However, if someone works for Goldman Sachs and gives money to a candidate, it's not Goldman Sachs who gave the money.

No one is surprised that HRC is doing well among fatcats and on Wall Street. We expect it. She and her camp do not try to pretend otherwise. Obama, though, poses as an agent of change. He is supposedly an ultra-progressive yet he is beloved by Wall Street and other fatcats who have a vested interest in preserving the status quo. He is sold as the anti-DLC. And so on. The mythology does not match up with the reality.

Last night's Warren Buffett event raised the campaign at least" $1 million, according to the Washington Post. Now Buffett has NOT endorsed Clinton. “But he has already donated the maximum $4,600 allowed by an individual to Clinton's presidential campaign. Buffett called Clinton ‘the person to run the country.’ He has not donated to any other candidate, according to public records, although he has said he would also support Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) in a similar event.”
