O'Malley To Organize Clinton Backers Next Week

Maryland Gov. Martin O'Malley is scheduled to host a statewide organizational meeting next week for the presidential campaign of Hillary Clinton, the latest in a string of activities on behalf of his preferred Democratic hopeful.

At the planned Tuesday night gathering at an Annapolis church, O'Malley "will provide a campaign update and explain how you can get involved in Maryland's February 12 primary," according to Clinton's Web site.

None of the presidential contenders are expected to invest much time or energy in Maryland, given that two dozen states have scheduled primaries or caucuses before then -- many of those on Feb. 5. But if the field is splintered after Feb. 5., Maryland would all of a sudden become a major battleground -- as would Virginia, another Feb. 12 state.

O'Malley's other activities in support of Clinton have included standing in for her at a June convention of the New Hampshire Democratic Party and hosting a fundraiser for her campaign in Baltimore County later that month.

A photo from O'Malley's endorsement of Clinton in May also remains prominently featured on O'Malley's campaign Web site. That event took place at City Dock in Annapolis.
