Early polls only give a basic idea of who the top candidates are

If a lot of voters are like me, they may go back and forth from week to week but there is certainly no commitment to anyone. Most polls are talking to people who are tuned into the flavor of the week. About 48 hours before the actual voting occurs people really begin to decide who they like and who they think can win. The news media will say someone has "momentum" but in truth that momentum comes from people coming to terms with who they really like or shying away from someone they fear maybe can't win in a general election. Early on support for candidates is very soft but in the last 12 hours it will shift and become solid when voters do their homework.

I really could care less about any polls until two days before Iowa. Post as many as you want then but right now they don't mean too much other than giving us an idea of who the top three or four candidates are.

What I would pay attention to is how Democratic candidates do head to head against the Republicans in current polls. That will tell you who people believe can win, not that that is the best way to decide on a candidate, however based on how desperate Democrats are to win the White House after Bush has left the country in ruins, its probably a pretty good barometer for how things will shift at the end.
